if any of you have ever had a 87 ranger, 4x4, 2.9 engine computer fail.. how did you know and find out that it was the computer ??

what were the tell tale signs of the problems you were experiencing, for how your engine was running, until you discovered your 2.9 engine's computer was causing your problems..

It happens, but it is very rare. Some have no fuel pump operation, some the engine runs extremely rich, some are just dead. Hard to diagnose.

Truck would not start.

When scanning for codes self-test would not run.

Ford says No self test = need for a garbage pail.

When I flooded my Ranger years ago, it hurt the computer. When driving there would be lack of power and a miss,I could see dark smoke from the tail pipe(running rich) then it would clear up for a time.
