I have a 1997 ranger with a 4.0 and a auto trans. My check engine light is on and when i hook up the code reader it gives me the coad p1445. on a website i found that means the purge valve high output, so i replaced it......Nothing it still do comes on. so i cleared the code and it still keeps coming on. does anybody know what the code might be or what the truck needs??????

Thanks trxusrngr.:icon_confused:

need to check the wires and terminals for problems, or just take it to a shop who knows how to check it all out...

engine light

i have a 97 ranger and for the last 9 years mine has stayed on i have replaced everything the code says and everyone i talk to professionally they say if its runnig okay and no problems then screw it :headbang:

I've had this problem for a long time. I replaced both sensors, checked the vacuum lines and checked the wires going to the sensors but still the light stays on. This is what I did to fix the problem. There are two caps on the charcoal canister which the vacuum lines and sensors are coming out of and going into the manifold. I took off the caps and found that the screens were full of dust. I sprayed carb cleaner on the screens let it evaporate put the caps back on reset the code and the light stayed off. Hope this works for you.

After about 2000 that whole evap system is a can of worms. I would really like to know how it really works. Every thing I have read says there is no way you can troubleshoot it yourself. That it takes a bunch of special equip and such.

If there is anyone on here that can explain it, please step forward.
