Hate to ask but PO 401 code?

01, 3.0 146,000 Been repairing and fixing this one for two months. It was hammered. New plugs and wires, air filter, cleaned MAF, Oil change, good fuel. O2 sensor good. Replaced recirculation hoses and module. Removed inspected and tested EGR (clean as new and works by pulling vacuum on port. Main EGR line is clear also. I have not pulled the TB but did clean what I could without removing it. It wasn't dirty. I really thought I could get this fixed with out posting but no sir.... Get the light every day after a lil while of driving. And in runs so darn good ??? I have been searching here and internet and no luck. Y'all gimmi some suggestions.....

Just because the egr actually operates doesn't mean its flowing. The ports on both the valve itself and the intake can get clogged with carbon. Since you say the valve looks clean my bet would be the ports on the intake are clogged, or the dpfe sensor is not working.

Use a hand operated vacuum pump to apply vacuum to the valve directly while the engine is idling. If you can't at least make it stumble you have a blockage. You should be able to make it stall.

Test the EGR while engine running WOW lil motor stumbled and did all but kill. That's a good test. So, new DPFE, EGR definitely works, new hose on DPFE. What now LOL.

Test the vacuum switch next.

Follow the vacuum line. It will be a black cylinder with two vacuum lines and an electrical connector.

Thanks, I do have a small exhaust leak the two go into one, I have the gasket, it wasn't high on the list yet. will go there 1st then hit that list of checks, thanks
