Has anyone stroked there 2.9?

No joke, that's a weird feeling ??

Keep us posted, and update the crap out of that build thread!

Oh and megasquirt was single greatest improvement. Diagnostics alone make it worth it.
The wireing and eec are holding me back its 30+ years old and every day is spent chasing some new wire issues it seems like.
I didnt want to pull the trigger on megasquirt till I talked to someone else who was running it. So thanks for the response.

Absolutely. I could go on for hours about them, but best way to learn is get on MSExtra and start asking every question you can think of after reading their FAQs

My mind is exploding as we speak.

Defend the 2.9 or defend cubic inches.

Eh....

um...

shit...

@1987ranger12394 welcome to the mafia.

My 2.9s stay stock but i can speak to their durability. Keep them cool and they are about unkillable. Ive used and abused mine and never had any internal issues besides the ticking.

Your FM145 is gonna grenade in short order once you start building.

Yeah every day I worry about pulling away from a stop with to much enthusiasm. I've got some work in it but dont trust my bottom end so I'll end up buying a new long block. Already have it picked out.

I know it's very bad for the 2.9s to overheat, but just a quick question, whatre some good mods to do to help keep temp down.

Keep it submerged.

Get a 4.0 radiator (1164's), and upper and lower hoses (21897 & 21623). The upper hose has to be custom fit, but it works. I use a 180° thermostat, though some think the 195° is necessary. And headers to replace the poor flowing exhaust manifolds.

Dirtman's method will work if you spend a lot of time at the pool (and nowhere else). Though that may only work with a minivan.

Aftermarket Oil cooler, aftermarket radiator electric fans plus oem fan, 1000$ headers or home built ones

I read the title of this thread and get a visual, it involves P.J. and motor oil (instead of hand lotion) Then I try to remember if this is the tailgate section, I dont think it is.
Seriously though, A 4.0 ohv is a stroked (and bored) 2.9 if I recall correctly.

I found a supplier for a long block with hypereutectic pistons,Moly Rings,Brass Freeze ,RV Camshaft,12 HP Valve Springs (RECOMMENDED for use with RV Camshafts),ZDDP Additive, and heavy duty heads. I'm not sure what stock comes with but if that's the strength of stock building a 2.9 just got a lot easier.
$399 for new improved heads.. someone still making them... why why WHY much they force us to buy the long block to buy those heads!

Man, I am learning a ton rebuilding my 2.9 right now. Just found the porting info I've been looking for in Pruetts book. Unbelievable.

I'd hit the company up and see if you can buy them separately

There are sellers on eBay that sell new heads. I would ask regarding the valves and springs though. The last pair I got from J & C clearly had used/reground valves (different valve stem heights and valve head heights in nearly all 6 cylinders), and most likely used springs also. I'll probably get new valves and springs before I assemble my 2.9.

I bought new heads for my 2.9 on ebay a couple of years also. I don't see them on there now, but I only paid about $400 for both heads. They went right on, no problems. They wanted the old heads for a core, so I had to send them back. So they probably do use the old valves in the new castings. Being at different stem heights should not matter, since our valves are adjustable.
