Those two words seem to fit this piece, but I don’t think it’s actually one of them. A year ago, I changed the timing belt. I had the sensor dangling thinking it had to come off. I turned the engine and it got smushed and an end on the ring bent. I bent it back as best I could and the sensor seemed fine.

now I’m changing the sensor, and this fin looks like it’s been rubbing. It also looks like a chunk broke off. Both outside fine are the same length though.

My local upullit just crushed all their old rangers so I’m relegated to sourcing one online. All I’ve found are a couple on eBay for $250 and a couple from different cars (mustang).

should this be replaced? Will any 2.3 one work?

Straighten it out best you can and center the sensor best you can (business card on the outer where it's closest should work) and call it good. The sensor is hall effect so all it knows or cares about is whether there's steel there or not. The signal might not be quite as crisp but there's not a whole bunch of teeth so you should be fine...

Maybe keep an eye out for one but I wouldn't lose sleep over it. It should be the same as any '89-94 Ranger or '91-93? Mustang, after '94 they went to a VR sensor that is completely different and a completely different damper setup.

I think it’s fine. I really couldn’t get any adjustment out of it. Maybe fractions of a mm. It was sure tight on that bent spot, but fine I think.
