My credo
Give 'yer balls a tug. Fight me.
1996 Ranger 2.3l.

Bent my harmonic balancer bolt while trying to remove the balancer with a puller.

Trying to find a replacement online and no luck.

Any suggestions on a new one, whether OEM, ARP, etc? Would rather avoid a hardware store special.

Common balancer/crank - so I expect the bolt is the same.
Researching...

The one that comes up in searches is "Dorman Harmonic Balancer Bolts 926-885", but this is the DURATEC Bolt, NOT the Lima.

Thank you, you'd think they would be everywhere....

Those are probably the bolts digging into your back while you’re crawling around under cars at the junk yard.

How much stress would be on that bolt, anyway? Wouldn't any grade 5 or grade 8 bolt be more than sufficient?

Metric, so different grades. Plus I really don't want "sufficient" - that always ends poorly for me.

Same here. Even Esslinger didn't carry them, which is super weird. It

quite a bit.

the keyway is not a press fit, there is a very small amount of play between the crank/key/balancer.
as the engine runs, and vibrates, that key can wear into the crank thus destroying the slot and throwing timing off. rare, but it does happen.
you need a lot of pressure between the crank and balancer (it's really a harmonic damper) to keep things in order.

if you run the math a 14mm fine pitch bolt under 100+ lbsft of torque would probably exert a couple tons of pressure.

FYI, Duratec bolts are 14mm 1.5 pitch. same as the mighty Vulcan and the Yamaha V6 in older Taurus SHOs.

same threads that is, heads & lengths differ.

Could you imagine the cursing if @PetroleumJunkie412 was actually removing the balancer from a duratec instead of a lima... :icon_rofl:

Ok I was bored and called the parts department at my Ford dealer. The bolt size for the 2.3 Lima is M14x1.50x55 I think I saw that on ARPs website before

So Lima and duratec must be the same them. Im sure it can be a lil shorter..
