Does anyone know if a hard tonneau cover, from a 2012 Ranger, will work on my 1985 bed? Both trucks have the 7' bed.

TIA

TL, DR: Yes and No. It will fit but won't seal (because the bed sides are different).

I believe the inside of the bed is the same for all the rangers up to 2011/2012, just the skins on the outside changed. I wouldn't see why not.

I've never seen how those get bolted on, so I couldn't say for sure.

I am with josh, i have used small c-clamps a number of times to hold that stuff on

The only thing that may be an issue is the newer, old model Ranger bed sides taper from wider at the front to narrow at the real. The cover may or may not follow that taper. Just something to look for before you finalize the deal.

I’ve never noticed that, how much would you say?

From the pics posted, I can see C-clamps. Can't tell how many there are but I would hope there are six (could be four). I'm pretty sure you can get them off of Amazon (or the like).

As @sgtsandman suggested, I'll check the taper on my bed and ask the seller to check the taper on the tonneau frame.

Thanks all!

FOLLOW-UP: My bed does not seem to have a taper. It measures 54.125" at the cab and at the tailgate.

Makes sense about the C clamps, I had a soft topper that worked the same way.

I never measured. Maybe 6” wider at the front compared to the back. This is the outer side walls only. The bed interior is completely straight.

The last soft tonneau I had used Velcro. So, it's been a while....

Mine was convertible camper top, with sides that folded up ect. Instead of fiberglass or aluminum. The whole thing would fold up at the back window. So it had big aluminum rails to support the frame.
