I have a 88 ranger 2.9 with a 5 speed. It's very hard to shift. It will go through the gears while not running but once its started its near impossible to take it out of gear or put it into a gear! Pressing down the clutch its easy to push down and doesnt feel like it comes back out! It has been doing this on and off for the last few weeks! It is also pretty cold here todays high was around 15 so is this just of the cold is there anyway to adjust the clutch?

Bleed your clutch.

Do the gears grind when you try to shift with the motor running? Does the truck creep forward in first gear with the clutch pressed to the floor?

My truck was also a little difficult to shift in the cold, before I changed the fluid. The problem went away after the trans warmed up.
