Harbor Freight Shop Crane

So it seems the general consensous is to skip the 1 ton and grab the 2 ton. I will see if I can swing the 2 ton, but I might just have to wait for the person I was borrowings lift will give it back. Sucks as I had set up tomorrow to work on with my brother

Sent from, wait how did this get here?

I have a fleetwood auto crane. It's orange. It's a 2 ton hoist that could lift big truck engines with no problem and its extremely tall. A friend gave it to me for free, 70 bucks fixed a leak (because parts weren't available i had to get a part made at a machine shop). Works excellent now. Lifted a 302 with the boom set at 2000, like lifting the boom empty. The legs adjust waaaaay out and the boom adjusts waaaay out down to 500lbs

On my HF hoist I barely had the room to lift the engine over the radiator and get the engine in. Of course mine has a 4" suspension/2"BL, but I did have 235's on it. It did the job, but I had to swing the engine over a little bit to clear to drop it in (Im talking about a V-8 as well)

You could always do what I did (and at least one other person on here)...remove the cab and use a forklift...I even used the forklift to remove the cab...came off perfectly and the engine/transmisson was easy to plop down and fasten...did that part in about five minutes with the cab off...

That boom looks pretty short to me... it takes some pretty good ups to get an engine over the radiator support when you have a lift. As you go up the engine gets closer to the mast. Not sure how that is going to work out... it might be ok. :dntknw:

That boom is adjustable.

I have not used that entire setup, but the cherry picker at work has that bottle on it. It leaves something to be desired.

Then again, we are picking up fully dressed diesel engines with it. That runs about 1800 lbs.

That boom is adjustable.

Yeah, it goes two clicks shorter and one click longer. Maybe 8" longer?

From the sounds of Bloodbane it is close but should work if you are doing just the engine.

If you are doing the trans at the same time I think you will need more altitude.

That is just the V6, but it with the A4LD it was longer than my 302/C5 combo. It had more to go, that is just where we called break to let the trans dump fluid out the rear.

mine has worked just fine, I did an engine swap on my Buick, and have moved a few v8s around the shop. For home use I see no reason to buy anything else.

Because I paid a hair more than half that for my big red collapsible one.

no access to forklift.

Looked at in store and read it was chincy. Got the 2 ton one home to find no bolts in the box, take it back, get another and one of the bolt holds isn't lined up right. O I had to force it together. It had been a day from hell

You'll have that now and then. I bought a harbor freight bandsaw, and locked it up the first time I used it, I have a feeling it was my fault, but I exchanged it and have since cut a bunch of steel with it, I never expect top notch quality with anything from harbor freight, but I HAVE been impressed with a few things, especially their toolboxes, I am a big fan of them.

I bought the chicago electric battery charger and it charges both group 31 batteries for my dually just fine. hook the battery charger to one batter and jumper both together and it works just fine.

the engine hoist did its job. Plus the 3 seven hundred watt solar panels I bought from harbor freight work as expected.

Are you using the solar panels on your house or what? Im curious about what getting some would do for me.
