Ahhhh, that was a mighty fine bird...
For those of you south of the border who do not know it, Canada was discovered by the Vikings on or around this day five hundred years prior to Columbus having the first pasta dinner on American shores. So, in honor of that fateful day we all sit around naked, except for our horned helmets.
And since the turkey was the first unfortunate animal to be scorched to a crisp when the Viking spaceship landed in Ontario, we pay homage to that event by cooking a plump turkey and, of course, we utter a prayer of thanksgiving similar to what the other turkeys said for being spared the same fate as their brother bird.
And those famous words are on everyone's lips just before eating the feast..."Gobble, gobble, gobble!"
And, to be honest, I think we have Thanksgiving in October because that is when we have already harvested our crops due to the obvious cold weather and see an abundance of the fruits of our loins, er, labour.
Oh, and also because hockey season has started and we will soon be finished with baseball, basketball, and full contact naked bingo (the ladies dress warmly in the winter).
