my son and I went to the junkyard yesterday looking for and idler arm for his 78 mazda. I drive a 98 ranger 2.5l 4spd w/od 2wd short bed. We saw some 80's rangers with the dual front arms, they looked to be equal length.
here's my thought. we saw a 64 chevy with trailing arm rear suspension. anyone thought of using them?
 
As in the front twin traction beam suspension? And using the front beams for rear trailing arm suspension? If that's what you mean, that probably is not a good idea. They are both developed for use as front suspension and have mounting points for steering knuckles that would weaken any possible use as a rear trailing arm.
 
no what i meant was to use the trailing arm rear suspension from a 60's chevy as a rear suspension.
as for the front. i'm thinking of using the front off of an 80's ranger.

So using a 64 Chevy rear trailing arm suspension for the rear suspension of a 98 Ranger? What are you planning on doing as far as the truck goes? Full race truck, mild weekend warrior?

Id buy a beamed ranger (if youre not using your sons) and build that. dont try and convert your a armed ranger to beams lol
 
Sounds like your trying to build a 3 link rear using chevy parts, right?

it'd be a cool thing to do but it does sound like you're talking about linking it and after cost of coilovers and getting a cage setup you'd be so deep in $ it pobably wouldn't be worth using chevy stuff vs custom fabbed arms

thanks for the input guys. it was just a thought. i love the look of a prerunner but the cost is just so out there. i'll just stick some bigger tires under it and call it good.
