so here is the story...
i am working at an auto part store...kind of like pep-boys but better...any who...they just cut my hours and every one else's hours from 40 to 30...then the fallowing week i could have as low as 15 we are DEAD

i have my class a licence and ain't using it..
my question is...do i find a long hall job and do what i want for a career and not be able to see my g/f for a wile and have chance that i loose her?

or do i stick at this job that i will have nothing for hours and nothing for money and hope that i don't get laid off?

I say either drive truck or get a second job. If they're cutting your hours you've got the time. It may also be possible to collect partial unemployment if your cut in hours looks pretty permanent, of course then your employer may start looking for a way to get rid of you if you do.

I don't know anything about the trucking business but along the same line as the previous comment why don't you see if you could work in some short runs in between the regular job? You wouldn't be away for an extended period. A lot of employers look for fill in or occasional workers.

i have not read one other response yet, but I will say this. If your job costs you a girlfriend, then maybe she aint the one for you. If she aint your wife, then you better know where your prioritys are. Truck driving companys are the only ones hiring right now. Swift transportation is hiring 11000 employees to fill driving positions this year. Its down from 15000 last year and 19k the year before but still, you are almost guarunteed a job. Otherwise see if the parts store will let you do deliveries on top of your regular hours.

I would look into forestry and construction. Both of those fields regularly are looking for CDL drivers of all kinds. That will allow you to do a little bit more than just drive and still allow you to stay close to home.

Does your GF have a job ?? If not, drive long haul & take her with you. Any chance she would be interested in driving a truck ?? Have her get her license
and drive as a team. Right now I'm still working 50 hours a week, but if it does slow down to the point that I get laid off I'll be driving the truck coming up behind you.

My buddy makes a lot of extra cash driving dump trucks locally. He has three, jobs out two. Maybe you could find that kind of gig.

If you were in any area where my company works or has an office I would recommend hitting them up for a driver position. But you would probably have to get a Hazmat Endorsement on your CDL . . . Good Luck man . . .

you could applie for part time unemployment. thats what my G/F is doing now. she still works there but has not worked in 3 weeks.
