i used to take lessons and play in highschool, but as my life slowly picked up speed my guitar case got dustier and dustier. ive got 2 squire stratocasters, one i bought new which is a 25th? anniversary with gloss black paint w/ metal flakes and the other is one that i dug out of my neighbors garbage. his kid played it in the school band and he had carved shit into it all over the body so i sanded it down, spot puttied it, and then painted it to match the 78 pontiac lemans i was driving at the time. my goal was to build a guitar that i could take to practice after school when i rode the motorcycle (my bag has shoulder straps) and then i wouldnt have to worry about ruining my nice new guitar if there was an accident. theyre both at my little brothers now, but he plays all the time so i figure id rather he play it once and a while and keep the strings from rusting and the necks from warping.

Over the last 2-3 years ago I have collected a few... These are what I kept for more than a few weeks lol...

1.) Austin? strat (first guitar)
2.) Harmony strat (nothing worked on it except bridge/middle combo, and I LOVED this sound)
3.) Epiphone strat copy (first humbucker guitar)
4.) ????? H-S-H Sam Ash "special" (don't remember the name, but it was blue and had a licensed Floyd Rose so I bought it lol)
5.) Washburn Idol 66 Pro Flamed Maple Top (still have this one, very versatile, bought it because I needed a reliable guitar because we were touring around frequently)
6.) Fender HM Strat (backup to the Washburn)
7.) Fender/Squier Standard Tele (Nicknamed "Junkyard" because it has been rebuilt 5 or 6 times with different [mostly] secondhand parts... It has a Fender body [original] with a Squier neck [I wanted a maple capped board] a Seymour Duncan mini hum [only new part] in the neck with a random strat pickup in the middle and the original tele pickup in the bridge, only a master volume and neck select switch where the other knob goes, and the master volume is a push pull that selects the bridge/middle combo only with no volume control... This is my main gig guitar now... I bought it off a friend right after graduation for $75 dollars because it needed set up and had a broken solder connection...
8.) Fender Deluxe Nashville Tele (backup to the Junkyard guitar)
9.) Ibanez Bass (used for the occasional bass jam)
10.) Classic Players Strat (bought it off my buddy for real cheap, sold it a few weeks later at a profit)
11.) Stagg Acoustic (very unique sound and has survived 3 years of shows and 2 car accidents, this is my always with me, songwriting guitar, lol)
12.) I had a violin for a little that I claimed I was going to learn to play, but didn't... sold to my buddy...

All that is left is 5, 7, 8, and 11... I haven't toured alot lately, been doing some local studio work recently and looking to get back into touring... This past weekend I just ordered the body for a copy of the "Junkyard"... Going to be a Warmoth body and neck with a SD Classic Stack for tele in the bridge, SD Classic Stack for Strat in the middle and a Vintage mini hum in the neck... Along with my special switching I think I'm going to add a coil tap to the neck, that way I have that Tele twang, the Strat's bridge/middle "honk", and a Gibson smooth neck along with a Strat/Tele funk sound too... The best of everything...

I guess I'll bump this back up to the top... I rearranged the junkyard Tele again... Its now an Esquire (single bridge pickup Tele), with volume control and a mute switch... What we're doing right now, I realize I don't ever use anything except the bridge pickup on the Tele (I try to keep it simple on stage) and my (new) Vintage Silverface Bassman (I got for $250 haha)... So, now I have the Junkyard Esquire, a body and neck (going to be a backup for the Junkyard, exact same configuration), probably one more Esquire soon, the Washburn and the Stagg acoustic... The Nashville Tele is floating around somewhere (loaned it to my buddy for a gig and haven't gotten it back yet)... Have another friend who is selling a Rockerverb 50... My mouth is watering for that! I have a serious case of GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome)...

Getting ready to do a setup on my Washburn RR-40. Have to make a new pickup mounting ring, and make a minor adjustment to the tremolo arm with a file where it was rubbing on the body through the tremolo. It's got a Wonderbar tremolo, full surface-mount with no routing needed for springs and such.

Update:

Got the pickup mounting ring made, and installed new height-adjustment springs on the pickup unit. Took the tremolo apart and cleaned it all up, and filed the end of the arm to fix the body-rub issue. New strings today, and a full setup (truss rod, string height, intonation). Not too hard, just tedious - tune, adjust, retune, more adjust, more retune, etc. Got it all done, and it seems to be OK. Letting it sit overnight so the strings can settle in a bit, then will re-check it tomorrow.

I've played bass for about 5 years, I usually play an Ibanez GSR190 or a Hohner B Bass V through a Gallien Krueger Backline 250 with a 115 Cab. The Ibanez is a cheap bass, but it plays a lot better than quite a few more expensive ones I've played, and sounds alright. The Hohner, a pawn shop find, plays great, but is kind of lacking in the sound I want, but its a good 5 string for what I paid for it. I don't have any pictures of my amp, but here is me with the Ibanez at a show a few weeks ago:

I'm the only person I know that does my own set up... I set up guitars for everyone in my band, the other guitar player has a Gretsch Silverjet and that bridge on that thing is annoying as crap... I don't like it...

Back when I played regularly I did my own setups. Never made it into a band though.

A local music store had their annual "invite only" sale last Tuesday....and of course, I'm on the list. Usually don't buy anything, but this year had a GAS attack. Got a DigiTech Screamin' Blues pedal, a couple of 6' cords, and some much-needed guitar stands (5).

Went by there again yesterday (it's on the way to work!) and got a DigiTech Death Metal pedal, another tuner (gotta have one for the bench, one for the gig-bag), some pedal-to-pedal patch cords, and a couple of 3' cords just cuz they were a buck each.

I get GAS real easy......

Almost got a pink Strat for $99, but was able to walk away. Barely. It was a struggle.

I like the Digitech RP-200 Processor that I've had for a few years, but it's got so many voices that I don't care for, and of course they're not grouped together so it takes a bit to switch from one to the others. I'm thinking of selling it. That's why I'm going back to individual pedals. I got a Danelectro Delay off Amazon (only $15.00 new!), and might hunt down a flanger, most likely the Digitech TurboFlanger.

Then the fun project might start. Pull the Bill Lawrence pickups out of another "project" (electric 12-string), and fully wire them out in another guitar I'm working on. Do the coil-tap, phase-reverse wiring.

I've played guitar since 1960.

I was in the Musicians union for about 25 years playing "tuxedo" jobs (orchestra pit Bigband and Showtunes, pop standards, etc). I still play locally since retiring from my day job as a mechanic(real musicians have day jobs).
