Gt-12

Ah, the things I could accomplish......if I only had a garage. And this work of art is in a basement.......life isn't fair!

You should see what he cranks out in the tarp shed

it's like i always say.....if you have the desire to build something, you'll find the place to do it.if that means working under a tarp in the cold, that's what ya gotta do.

clearing a bit of space in the basement worked for this one.:icon_thumby:

Not to hard to find space when the car isn't much bigger than a standard sheet of plywood. Unfortunately it doesn't look much thicker than one either. While that does make it look good I don't think I'd be able to fit to well or have the desire to try. I think I'd at least need a gurney bubble.

Watching you builddoes make me want to get out and work on my truck. But it's outside and it's not getting much above 50 any time this week.

Ok that's not really a problem, but the next step is cleaning and painting parts and frame before I reinstall the front suspension, and paint don't want to work so well outside in this weather. Plus I got the nice present of a upper respiratory infection this week. :bad: I started classes this week, so I get to work on Trig and Speech. While it's not much fun it is better in the long run than working on the truck. IF I pass these two and Physics next quarter I'll have an AAS in Aviation Maintenance Technology, and be about a year of computer classes away from the same in an "IT Professional" program.

50:shok:....

that's like 10* celsius!

that's summertime temps!

geez,if it was 50*f here i'd be working on the ranger out in the driveway right now.in shorts and a t shirt!drinking a cold beer!

i just painted the quad trailer i'm building in the tarp shed....it's -3*c.snow on the ground.i had to use a torch to melt the ice off the metal first.

sorry, man.i don't want to seem harsh....but 50*f aint no excuse.

For the record that tarp shed of yours seems to be better equipped than some of the garages around here

That's because it's got one tool no other garage has: Gwaii

Yes, Gwaii I just called you a tool. :icon_rofl:

Gwaii, I was just gonna ask you about the progress on the trailer you started to build about 5 pages ago :icon_rofl: Looking good so far :icon_thumby:

ya,it's getting there....i've been in no rush with it.should be setting it on the axle tomorrow.i've had a bunch of other emergencies around town keeping me busy-seems those never end.

What type of axle will you be using under it?? 8 lug torsion spring type??

I've got those every day, I call 'em customers.

me too:icon_thumby:

5 lug torsion spring...what he had was a car dolly that he wanted a deck set onto.it'll hold three quads,i told him not to load it too much beyond that.....no big loads of firewood.

Shit dude I was expecting a reply like that, it's half the reason I posted in the first place.

In all actuality it has been floating around 0*C here all week. 50*F is just what the weather man is saying for this week. I don't think it ever quite got there today maybe it will tomorrow. Once the average temps around here got close to 50*F I couldn't get paint to stick right to anything, much less cure properly. So if you don't mind my asking what's your secret there. I'm guessing it has to do with heating your tarp shed, but at the moment I don't have that option.

Regardless if you felt like I do right now it could be 75* and sunny, you'd still want nothing more than to be in the bed getting over this shit. Can't wait until it's gone. Then I Get to start working on the newer truck to find the cause of my Cylinder 6 misfire, but that's another story, for another thread, some other time.

I built the front & rear bumpers for my CJ in the basement. Promptly got informed that there would be no more of that in the house. I guess the welding didn't set well, or something. :icon_welder:

I'd have a killer garage, except for the fact that there's not enough room on the property. So, I make do with a good flat driveway, and a very well-equipped 10x10 shed.....basically a toolbox with a roof.

like i say...ya gotta do what you gotta do.

Shit dude I was expecting a reply like that,

good,i felt kinda bad about it for a bit...but not too bad:D

Once the average temps around here got close to 50*F I couldn't get paint to stick right to anything, much less cure properly. So if you don't mind my asking what's your secret there. I'm guessing it has to do with heating your tarp shed, but at the moment I don't have that option.

no way to keep heat in the shed,it gets out faster than i can get it in.

i've found moisture to be a bigger problem than temperature...and for this sub-zero temps actually work better.i use a good quality urethane with a hardener, and at low temps it takes a lot longer to set properly, but if the metal is dry and clean when i spray it works fine.wipe down the metal with a good solvent-in low temps i use acetone,it picks up the bit of moisture still clinging on.also, make sure the metal is just a little warmer than the air around it-this will keep condensation from settling on it again.i start with an acid etch primer, urethane primer over that, then spray the topcoat.in low temps it can take 1 1/2-2 days for it to cure,so patience is needed.

Regardless if you felt like I do right now it could be 75* and sunny, you'd still want nothing more than to be in the bed getting over this shit. Can't wait until it's gone.

i know what you mean by that-i've been fighting a bit of a bug myself....makes it tough to get anything done.that's part of the reason progress on the car's been so slow lately, just no energy left at the end of the day.thank god i don't have it as bad as some people around here.

I kinda just shut down in the winter, dark as hell when I get home.
I did get a small shop built this fall,12X16,just for tools mainly.I can actually find most of my crap now!
I can set up my little TIG rig and leave it that way plus I scored a new cutting torch out fit for Christmas (You rule Dad!).Ive been using the winter months to build benches and go through my tools.
I would rather work outside.........better light.
