If you are using the wifes oven in the kitchen for the heat source for your vacuum forming, you might want to wait until she's going to be out for a while as some of the plastics have aromas she might not appreciate.

that's the plan.

she's going out of town for a couple of weeks over christmas,i plan on doing all kinds of stuff that would normally get me some grief.stuff with the car, that is.

I had a customer earlier today with a cargo container he had made into a sewing shop for his wife.

All I could think when I saw it is "Wow, that looks like a mother-in-law suite Gwaii would build"

mother in law suite be damned....looks like a personal escape pod.

just needs a wood stove.

At Castrol raceways some guy put 5 of those together for a quick, cheap 40'x40' garage. The walls were removed from the insides. I didn't get a close look to see if any support was added but I would guess that it would need some.

i've seen this sort of thing done too,i would imagine there's some sort of reinforcement to the roof.

Hmmm, great idea on the containers!

Last time I checked 40' shipping containers were about $3,000/each in the US. So you could have a nearly weatherproof escape pod for pretty cheap and be able to set it just about anywhere you want.

I didn't bother him for the specific price, but I guessed $4,000 and he just said "Way cheaper than that"

The prices can fluctuate depending on many variables. Sometimes you can just find deals on them, used. It's all supply and demand. I've heard of as low as $600 in an area that doesn't see a lot of imports/exports (no need for such containers so price drops drastically).

BWAHAHAHAHA!!! I heartily laughed for a solid 10 seconds. :icon_rofl:

Interesting. Will definitely keep that in mind.

if i could find them that cheap,i'd jump at it.people around here are into them for $5-6000.

was right pissed yesterday...was trying to find out why the sidepipes are taking so long, turns out the supplier forgot to order them.so i'm waiting and waiting-for nothing.
got another quandry to consider...i'm out of aluminum sheet, and still have a lot of stuff to make.it's just across the water at a prince rupert metal dealer, but it will cost more than the metal to get it shipped here.kinda frustrating.
not too much interesting going on the last couple of days, just measureing and fitting things up,got the second layer of glass on the headlight cover forms, and working on(other peoples)boats.
should spray some gelcoat on the forms tomorrow.

Yeah, I would say that the $600 certainly isn't normal. But when you start to weigh in the cost of shipping an empty container back to somewhere where it could be filled with goods and be sold for a more reasonable value it starts to become a wash. Either sell it for $600 or ship it for $2500 (empty) and sell it for $3000-$3200 after it gets to that location where the containers are in higher demand.

absolutely, and we have a major port just across the water from here.any containers that come here are purchased there, then they need to be shipped($)here.

researching the cooling system on the v12 right now.geez, they know how to make a simple process complicated.

Perhaps you need to import some salable goods?
