Gt-12

If you stick a camera on the front of the motor and a display on the windscreen you might be able to see where you're going. The steering will be an interesting challenge.

This is the one I've been waiting on!!
Should be a real hoot and we all know how hard it is to find a good hoot these days!

ya,as i mentioned before-i've been waiting a long time for it too.got tired of waiting.with it being in the house i can work on fitting things up over the winter, hopefully have it rolling by spring.

the frame had these cutouts to clear the original trans, when the frame was widened they were in the perfect position to clear the pan on the jag trans.

as for the trans itself,it will be easy to get service parts for...it's a gm th400.

this is about the size of tire i'll be running.these are 22"od,i can go as big as 23".also,these are 13" rim size,i will be using at least a 15 or 16" rim.

they are, however close enough that i can use them for visualising and positioning components.

<---- Drooling...

got the perimeter frame tacked up tonight.this is a big part of the reason i felt i needed to start this project now-i bought the metal back in the spring for this, but i've been picking away at it for other things.i realised i nad barerly enough left to do what i bought it for, so i figured i better start before i needed to buy more.

i'm changing the layout on this car a bit-making it more like a scale model in that the floor and firewall will no longer be a part of the body.it will be attatched to the frame, and the body will drop over and attatch to the rockers, just like a model.
this means i don't need to struggle with trying to fit the cage into the body,i can build it in the open and drop the body on after.
this also means that the body can be easilly removed for servicing.

wont that make the body oober weak though

not at all.it will be fastened solidly to the underlying frame structure, and since this is stronger than the original floor pan and firewall,it will actually be a stronger assembly.the only time the body will be weaker is when it's off the car.

so i got to measureing for the cage, and set the seats in position.this brought up a small problem i knew i would be facing.

gt6001-1.jpg

you can see the seats are sitting on the frame over the hole framed under them.they need to sit IN this hole,as the floor attatches to the bottom of the rails.
since the frame was widened,it made these wells narrower,so now the seat is too wide to fit.it will be a fairly easy bit of work to narrow the bottom of the seats, but i need to keep the part you sit on the same size.
they are on the small side to begin with.

determined another curious fact-the overall height of this car will be 41 1/2".consider that the gt 40 was so named beacuse of it's 40" overall height.this thing is tiny.

started bending tube.the main hoop on this car is a very simple one, with only two bends.usually the tubes run straight up below thw windows, then kick in at the window line to the bends at the top.
this one is straight from the bottom to the bend in at the top.

even though it's simple,it still needs to fit,so a full scale drawing is done on a piece of aluminum sheet to figure out bend angles, and centerline dimentions.this is also used as a template while forming.
it is possible to do this mathematically, without the drawing, but there is no way to be 100% certain it is correct till it's too late.i like to check while doing the work, and make corrections on the fly if needed.

The trans tunnel should be interesting...lol!
Looks kinda like ole Doc Frankinstien had a go with a 67 Cobra.
That thing should launch like the Shuttle...lol!

The Porta-Power on the bender is just to sweet!

The Porta-Power on the bender is just to sweet!

i set that up 7 or 8 years ago-works great, and when i'm not using it on the bender,it's still a porta power.
