Gt-12

keep up the good work just found this a couple of days ago. Its looking awesome

that sounds like a fun project.those rotarys may not pull too good at the bottom, but they sure scream once you get them wound up.

Yeah, I can't wait to see his done. Twin turbo rotary should rip. His car is nothing but a driver's seat, dash and cage. Should rip, I called first ride! lol

I'd like to see the GT-12 in action once it's done. Its weight is pretty much all engine... haha.

and even the engine isn't that heavy....it's all aluminum.i don't think it weighs much more than the original iron six that came out of the car.

you should put up a pic or two of the rotary corolla.i'd like to see that.

I'll see if I can find a couple. We painted it a few months ago, I think he started the engine swap a few weeks ago, should be almost finished.

**edit** found a picture of it finished paint. Not my first choice for color scheme, but, not my car!

sweet!

i kept looking at the wheel in the fender opening and it just looked a little wrong.i realised the arch was too narrow for the diameter of the tire so....

more modification.i cut out the front of the arch,

gt6002-24.jpg

and moved it forward 1''.it's subtle, but makes the wheel look better in the arch.between the rust repair and the cosmetic surgery, theres not going to be much unmolested area left on this hood.

looks like it'll be a fun little toy.like you,i'm not big on the paint.needs something a bit more interesting.

spent the evening welding sheet metal.all those joints that were just tacked,i knew i had to finish weld them sometime,so this was the time.

gt6003-27.jpg

for those that havent done this,it's a time-consuming process....and one that never looks good when done.

gt6004-15.jpg

but once they are ground flat and bumped out,it should look like nothing was ever done here.i want to use as small an amount of filler as i can get away with on this car-none would be perfect, but i don't see that happenning.

gt6005-16.jpg

another part i've been playing with is the front suspension.here is the mock up for the new lower arm in position.it's ungodly short, but will eliminate bump steer,as well as pull the tire in away from the fender as the suspension compresses.

one thing i'm really debating is whether to keep the pinch welds on the top of the fenders.

as you can see here, they have a polished stainless cover on them.it would look cleaner if i cut them off and smoothed off the top of the fenders, but on the other hand, outside of the obvious mods to fit the v12,i would like to keep the car looking as stock as possible.

PICTURE064-2.jpg

of course,if the front ones go,the back ones go too.

having said that-the side marker lights are already deleted from the plan.they look tacked on with the original car and i don't like them.so,say goodby.

Consider them gone, I've you've already shaved the markers it would make sense. Have you considered "frenching" in the light on the bottom of the back? I think it would look nice in my opinion.

i've actually considered frenching all of them at one point or another.i was really looking at doing that with the headlights tonight while working on the hood.

I think it would look really nice Tom, it's a very modest looking modification that makes a huge difference in the overall flow of the vehicle.

great...more work:thefinger:

no,really,i think it's the best plan.a lot of that stuff was done to speed up production, not to enhance the design.by doing some minor body mods it will probably bring it closer to what the original designers intended.the lower lights on the back could even be shaved and not affect the operation.

Exactly, or alternatively how about slim LED lighting on the bottom? Would add a simple futuristic touch, they also make LED lights that look like a conventional incandescent lamp.

Something like what ORO makes for the Wrangler JK, I know you can get lights similar them from Grote through NAPA. I've had to order a set for a flat deck that came through the shop.
