Grrr...failed inspection....

i know here in ontario you can get a die u run in the oil an then clean the motor off an watch for a colored oil to seep out where ever its leaking. my buddies did it in his honda an he ran a blue die an is should up clear as day coming from the valve cover.

I will see if I can track something like that down...

The UV stuff is what he means. The blue package is made for oil(s) and the green package is made for coolant. Works like a charm.

Well, took the truck into get inspected for the next year, and it failed. Didn't know where to post this as it is a multi-problem post.
Failed for:
1.)Excessive oil leak-This one has me perplexed as it is coming from the passenger side. It leaks pretty good. I tried to pinpoint it, but no luck. I did notice though that there is oil droplets visible between the head and the block.

2.) Right side E-brake is not clamping down hard enough. I have a feeling it is time to install the bracket for the E-brake from the bodylift, as the drums and shoes are brand new (1 year old)

3.)No rubber covering for the clutch pedal (anyone have a extra one or can hit a junkyard for me?)

The oil leak is my biggest problem I see. When we pulled the motor out of the 91 Mustang, it did not leak at all. Any ideas/help would be greatly appreciated.

You people with your state inspections is some dumb stupid shit, no such thing in Kansas.

You wouldn't think so if you got to see 1/2 of the &hit boxes people try to drive around here in the winter time.

I used to be an inspector---yeah some states can be more anal then others--But you've not lived until you see some turkeybastedmoronicbastage have a fit due to finding his "Pimp Mobile" had a cracked brake rotor, broken front spring, rotted out frame near the rear axle mount...and the topper? No brake lights.

And I'm the one that wound up getting screamed at claiming I did all that damage to his *mint* car at the shop I worked at?!?!?

In regards to the posters problem? Automotive oil UV die. Put the correct amount listed into the engine oil after cleaning off the engine. Run it for a while and then hit it with a black light. You'll see exactly where it's coming from.

Nater, if it's any consolation, my truck failed NH inspection today too. Small hole in the floor & hole in the muffler.

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRGH!!!!!

Went to 'prep' the wifes Tibby over the weekend for the inspection that is now over-due.

Needed rear brake pads...No big deal. Installed. Went to adjust the parking brake/calipers? And noted the drivers side did nothing. Keep in mind we use the parking brake each time we stop due to it being a 5sp man. The inside of the cable itself? Totally gone on one side. The end was sticking out attached to the rear caliper, but nothing else LOL.

So it'll be about 55ish to get a replacement cable. On the lighter side? Those brake pads look like doggy treats...really tinyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.

The only thing that concerns me is the hole in the floor. I had no clue I had one. The exhaust will be a simple fix. $180 for everything from the cat back from the local parts store (NOT CrAPA!) They've got in stock ready to go.

Just tell 'em the hole in the floor is part of your emergency relief system for long trips?

(Hey...it could work)

If it's a small hole? stock steel and pop rivets. Just get steel thin enough to bend to form around the hole and pop rivet it into place.

Thanks! I'll also make sure to seal it up with a few gobs on RTV.

NH can be picky. Oh well. I guess I learn how to fix it myself.

On the upside, changing the exhaust should be easy. I have a friend with a lift. :yahoo:

I wish I had that!! LOL.. I can drive our BII and the 75' f250 on ramps and just about roll around under 'em to work on the beasts. The tibby? I told the wife " I'll supply the parking cable after you get paid (ordering it in rock-auto) but YOU'LL have to crawl under it to replace it." The stinker has the side-effects body kits...and is realllllllllllllllllll low to the ground.

Look, screw the inspections, just drive it like you stole it. Illegal Mexicans do this everyday.

i always power wash, then throw a few handfuls of flour or dump a fire extinguisher in there, drive it around for a few days, and find the wet spot!! wow that sound like the start to a bad joke
