I have a 1984 single cab 4x4 long bed 2.8l V6 Ranger with dual gas tanks and I'm trying to finally get my V8 swap, smog legal in CA. The referee is asking for the EXACT gross vehicle weight rating for the Ranger before they will approve my 97 Explorer donor or my current 89 Mustang 5.0l setup. The door sticker is missing from the Ranger and I can't find that info anywhere online, does anyone have this same configuration and would be willing to tell me what their sticker says the GVWR is and maybe even post a pic of their sticker? My VIN# 1FTCR11S1EUB74197 in case anyone has the same exact configuration. Thanks!!!

I found 5026 lbs for your configuration.

I have been searching Google for months already and I can only find "curb weight" for my specific model but the referee wants the exact gross vehicle weight rating. Is there a way to use the curb weight and payload to come up with the gvwr?

Yes there is a formula for GVWR

Or make up a number... if he doesn't know then how can he tell if you're lying? Just add 1,000 pounds to the curb weight and call it good. :dunno:

Oops

4th digit of VIN is C – 4,001-5,000 lbs GVWR

1990 Door sticker is the oldest I found: https://i.pinimg.com/736x/89/de/1c/89de1c58885894888ad4051eda180364.jpg

But same generation(yes it IS), with GVWR of 4,680lbs
R11 so same body style

Wouldn't work to subtract max. tow weight from GCWR
You could get the Curb weight and add 1,600lbs and get close to GVWR
600lbs for fluids and people + 1,000lbs(1/2 ton) for bed max weight rating

Yup, he's looking for gross vehicle weight rating which is the maximum weight for the truck fully loaded. Gross combined vehicle weight rating would be truck+cargo+trailer+trailer cargo.

I found the GVWR of 5026, and it varies slightly depending upon how the truck is equipped at final build.

Stupid question, is it on your title or registration? I believe in Pa they list the GVWR on the title.

My 1983 long box 4x4 2.8l is 4080 pounds

Thanks for the input everyone! After consulting with the referee and giving him a good estimate of the weight based off input from this thread, he stated that even though there is close to 1,000lb weight difference between the 97 Explorer and my 84 Ranger, they are in the same weight class (LT2) and they approved my 5.0L swap plans. Yay!!! I did contact Marti Reports about getting a replacement door sticker and they said that I have to buy the premium package to get a door sticker with the exact GVWR (normally left blank) so I will let you know what that says in a few weeks.
