When I start driving as i release clutch/give gas it will make a,hard to explain online, a groaning kinda of noise. If I start of slower and let clutch out slower it won't do it. other than that it shifts fine and get no noise when using clutch. just when I take off from a stop. What could it be?

I am no expert, but isnt the clutch plate semi twistable (all those springs and rivets in it appear to indicate it is meant to twist slightly when loaded quickly to prevent shock on the drive train). Perhaps it is getting rusty and there is friction in the pivot points?

Does it do it when you let out the clutch in neutral or just when you are in gear?

Mine does it all the time, it’s just not enough throttle/ too fast on the clutch when you’re getting off of it, for me at least it’s just the motor fighting due to bogging down with a load.

My dads 86 ranger made a little squeal/groan when taking off for a long time. It turned out that after 300,000 miles on the original friction disc had worn it down to the rivets.

only other thing i can think of is all the rubber in your tranny mount is gone. Check that out and see if its ok.

Summary Description :
HOOTING, EEKING OR MOANING NOISE COMING FROM THE CLUTCH WHEN SHIFTING GEARS. *TT

Sound familiar? It's benign. Won't hurt a thing. You'll find that if you really slip the clutch (way beyond the normal, so you can SMELL it) it'll scrape all that rust off and get rid of the noise until the next rain / high humidity lets it coat up with rust again.

It doesnt do it in neutral. and it only does it from stopped..neutral or clutch in and i put gear in first, and then start going.

It wont do it when shifting from 2-3 or 3-4 or 4-3 or 3-2. only from stopped- 1

It wont do it if I keep the rpms under 2k while releasing the clutch, but at this point if I dont do it perfect it bogs out a little bit as if not enough gas pedal.

Anyways, with the way my luck has been, it looks like ill be swapping in a used motor soon anyways, and ill probably just do the clutch then. Unfortuneately I bought a used truck from someone who overheated the motor, put new head gaskets on and passed the problem onto me.
so my $3200 99 ranger 3.0 5spd 4x4 is now going to be about $5000 with a used motor and new clutch and other things ive already done to it tryin to figure out a misfire problem. I thought I got a really good deal, turns out ill be coming out about even for what I was expecting to pay. at least Ill know its new clutch and better motor and I can maintain it unlike the asshole before me.
/rant off

That's kind of like what my brakes do after a rain. When I would forget about it and not be careful the first couple stops, I would about put myself through the front window.
