my truck was sank in the mud 2 februaries ago before i bought it. since then ive had to replace brakes hubs and some other things. when i got 4x4 working again, the front dif made a terrible grinding nooise. i put gear oil in and i saw some water por out. it still works fine but sounds terrible. think the whole things bad? maybe just the axles need grease? jw what you guys think

oil floats on water, it is definately not a good thing that water is coming out of your fill hole. I'd rip everything apart and see whats f'd up. Bound to be something is. Check all bearings, seals, gears and u-joints.

more than likely the bearings are shot, as well as the seals. Get yourself a master install kit, or the separate bits, and rebuild that diff. Make sure when you take it apart that the ring and pinion werent fawkd up when you drove it and heard it grinding.

ok, so im looking at the page from the link above...and i dont see the gears for a 3.73? i know i have 3.73s in the rear and was told the front needs to be the same. will the rebuild kit work for 3.73 gears too?

i can deal with the downtime no problem. im assuming i wont be able to inspect this thing with it still on the vehicle, am i right?
