Thank you. It's really almost exactly what I wanted. My old man had an late 80's Ranger XLT ( 5Speed) I really wanted one like his ( sappy, huh? ) starting really strong recently.

I dunno if it's any kind of sign, but this thing SMOKED emissions here. Didn't even come close to the cut off numbers. Engine had no ticks, knocks, rattles. Idle doesn't lope. I'm taking that as signs of a good engine. I know it's got the M5ODR1 in it, and that's supposed to be a great transmission. The PO before the guy I bought it from put a clutch in somewhere around 200k or so. It's just the tires, wipers and steering that I gotta focus on.

Which reminds me - Are any of y'alls Rangers SUPER tough to steer? ( at idle or otherwise )

Maybe your catalytic converter is messed if it bombed emissions? But hey, i have NO clue about any of this lol. Where i live, i went down to a muffler shop and they will remove the cat and put the pipe peice there for ya haha No rules for that here

My first ranger an '85 it didn't come with power steering so umm yea a pain to steer until I was moving. You got a good find I've seen way worse for more money. Just needs a little TLC.

Oh, no sir. Maybe I said that wrong. It aced emissions. Didn't even come close to failing. That was one of my biggest fears, was that I'd buy something, and then be boned cause I gotta dump 400+ into it for emissions repairs.

Lake County is one of TWO counties in Indiana that require emissions. AND... it's gotta be older than a 79 before it's exempt from it. Illinois? 94.

That's funny.. Cat coverter? Meh, who needs that. Stick this 2 inch by 2 foot tube up there, that'll work!

Ouch. My Colt didn't have power steering.. but.. then again. that was basically a go kart. I couldn't imagine trying to wrangle a Ranger around without it.

I'm plenty prepared to give it some TLC, I'm even thinking about going to Pick n Pull on Saturday. ( lense, wiper motors, yadda yadda ) I get the idear I'm gonna learn lots from this truck, just by owning it. One of the reasons I bought it was because I was under the presumption that older Rangers are gonna be kinda easy to work on, and pretty easy to find parts for.
