Hello to All,

Never been to this site before today. Why? 4WD function stopped working on my 2006 w/25k miles. Went to the troubleshooting section on this site and found some good info I will try later today.

I'm on my 3rd Ranger. 1st was a new 1988 SWB (Summer '88 Special) XLT 2.3 w/5 speed. Traded it in 2001 w/185k miles. Truck was repainted once under warranty and once more several years later. A super reliable truck with the following replacements/ repairs all out of warranty. One O2 sensor, one water pump, two mufflers, one receiver/ dryer and switchover to R134a. The only disappointment was the Ford add on cruise control kit - went through two of these - both failed about a year after their warranties ran out. I added a pop up moonroof, custom mats and a built in Audiovox CB radio (replaced once) that played through the built in truck interior speakers. A truly memorable truck.

The 2001 was a nearly completely loaded XLT 4 door 2WD with the 4.0L motor w/ 5 speed auto. I added the traction lock differential (guts), Ford Racing Diff Cover, fog light kit, electrochromatic interior mirror, custom floor mats and cargo organizer. This truck was repo'd by the bank in 2004 with 32k miles. My heart was truly broken.

My finances turned around not long after and I found a very desirable and brand new 2006 XLT 4 door 4WD with 4.0 and 5 speed auto trans. in early 2007 sitting on the dealer's lot with half flat tires, covered with writing and stickers and wouldn't start due to a dead battery! The $28k window sticker was the most expensive Ranger I had seen to date. I was in love at first sight especially with the Sonic Blue CC paint job, medium flint interior, console and 16" alloy wheels. Negotiated a fair price and brought it home a couple of days later. I added the electrochromatic rear view mirror, cargo organizer and custom floor mats not long after purchase. The truck just turned 25k miles and the 4WD failure is the first problem experienced - still has original tires and battery - wipers were changed for the 1st time this last spring.

I'm not that far away from retirement (hopefully) and don't plan on buying any more vehicles at the moment but I'm following the new Ranger I didn't even know existed until I stumbled upon this website.

I also own a 2005 Mustang GT that just turned 15k miles and a 2008 Triumph Sprint ST that just turned 6k miles.

Hoping to make as many positive contributions as possible during my time here. Happy Holidays / Merry Christmas to every one.

Turns out the 4WD transfer case selector motor was the culprit. Local garage rebuilt the motor for $60 and everything is working fine at the moment. Was told to turn on the 4WD system on a regular basis to keep everything up and running. Prices for a new motor ranged between $122 (partsgeek.com) and $400 (local dealer). :()
