Hi.
New to the forum. First post. Have 6 Fords. Just got a Ranger. Used to own a 1976 Ranger (full-sized)
Now have my Dad's 1996 F-150. Just recently picked up the 1993 Ranger for my kid to drive. It has 81 thousand miles on it (verified by Carfax vehicle inspection reports with mileage noted) It had several little problems, but it's been rewarding working with my 16yo fixing them and teaching him how to work on a car. Learned a few things myself. Probably the most rewarding repair so far was fixing the RABS system, getting the amber light to turn off and actually have the darn thing work.
It's going to need a new clutch soon. Trying to decide if I'll go through the transmission at that time as well and show the boy how that's done. I might also get one from the salvage yard, build that and put it in instead of having the truck down for a couple of weeks.
I was also able to score a complete set of factory service manuals (Chilton's sucks it a big way) and wiring diagram off of Ebay. Those things are a gold mine.
The one thing I'm dreading a bit on this is that it looks like it still has the R12 air conditioner on it and it almost works (low charge). Not sure if I'll retrofit to R134 or if I'll try to work one of my HVAC contacts and see if I can get it topped off.
