It's me again. Has anyone replaced the steering wheel on a 98-03 with a Grant wheel? If so what adapter is used? I know I have to watch out for a ticket for removing the air bag, but heck I am so old, nobody will care.

Discussion of illegal and unsafe modifications is frowned upon here.

You’re not going to get very many good answers. It’s not common to remove safety equipment like airbags unless it’s for offroad use only.
If I had to guess, I’d say that Ford didn’t change the diameter and spline count of the steering shaft so an older one may fit... but that’s 100% guessing.

people on here will lift their trucks with rusted scrap metal welded together with fluxcore bird shit welds then wanna preach safety when someone wants to put a cool steering wheel on their truck... laughhhhhh

Grant apparently does offer some aftermarket wheels with airbag support. Might be the way to go.

There really isn't anything to laugh at here Jolene...

Did you ever think there may be legal ramifications to TRS for aiding someone in removing mandated safety equipment? Emission controls? Exceeding towing or hauling limitations?

Had the OP said he was building an off road only truck... totally different story.

For what it is worth:

Is it legal to remove airbags from a car?
It's against federal law for a dealership or mechanic to disable or remove any part of a car's safety system, including the airbags and the airbag indicator light.
While there's no federal law against an individual disabling their own airbags, it's incredibly dangerous Feb 1, 2021

Not saying I still want to change the wheel, but I thought I would check with the law.

Ive heard (read ) its illegal for anyone (owner. included) to remove / disable airbags or tamper with tpms crap on vehicles. Or any other “safety” equipment. I wont tell you how I feel about it, but its a easy guess.

Your insurance police states that the truck has airbag. If you get in an accident and it’s found you removed the airbag, they could refuse the claim and charge you with insurance fraud. It’s a long shot, but it could happen.

To be fair, he never said he wasnt...

if a company like youtube isnt worried about aiding people in removing such equipment...then TRS has nothing to worry about.

He said he was worried about a ticket... that seemed clear enough to me.

We just follow directions handed down from the big guy. His site... his rules.

Youd about have to be in a accident to really get any greif over it, its not like youd get pulled over for a traffic stop and the cop noticed you had a “non-airbag “ steering wheel on. Ive been in a couple situations where the airbag never went off, so it was pretty pointless to even have one anyways.
