Howdy from N AL, excuse my ignorance of this site, just discovered it so I'm still trying to figure it all out. I recently bought a '97 Mazda B2300 5spd SE Cab Plus and I'm really liking it especially the 26.9-27.3mpg. I had a '79 Ford Courier (made by Mazda) back in the mid 80's thru 93 when my son took it over so I thought I'd try another only to find out Ford made my Mazda. The way manufacturers do any more you can't tell the players without a scorecard. As I said I'm liking it so far and looking for more ways to increase fuel mileage, so far I've discovered a previous owner has installed a Tornado in the air intake between the MAP sensor and and throttle body in what looks like a silencer (increasingly tapered from 1.5" on inlet (where Tornado is) to approx. 2.75" on outlet with holes made into the tapered part) is this efficient? The outlet of the air filter is only 1.5" so there wouldn't be any air flow increase by removing that center section.

The tornado is not helping the efficiency of the motor, and may actually be hurting it. The link below has some different "fuel savers" (tornado being one of them) that were put to the test.

Thanxs for the heads up, as I said it seems like the inlet air flow is severely restricted from the air filter which has 1 1/2" outlet into the maf which is at least close to 2 3/4" then it necks back down to 1 1/2" where it goes into the "silencer" then flares out to the same size as the maf. I'm not an engineer but that just doesn't "compute" to me.
