Been looking for different fuel cells while getting ready for my wanton swap. Had an extra Grand gas tank laying around and started measuring it. It will fit perfectly between the frail rails in the rear where the spare tire used to be.
As long as the pumps flow the same shouldn't I be able to wire it in and use the entire Cherokee assembly?

Here is the skid plate for the tank. It is sitting on the bottom of the frame rail so in reality it will be 4" higher. Just hoping that the pumps flow similar and this swap would be awesome!

Ok so I finally got some numbers for the fuel pumps.

Explorer:
GPH-30-40
PSI-80-100

Grand Cherokee:
GPH-45
PSI-80-90

I think they are close enough to warrant the swap. I'll keep everyone posted.

keep us updated, been looking for a tank swap myself. though it might not fit in a ranger since the frame isnt as wide in the back

whats the measurement on the tank and skid?

neat idea of a cost effective way to get a tank swap.. i've seen people use the b2 tanks on ex's.. but not a jeep one.

in tank regulator?

what year jeep system?

bumping two regulators could cause volume issues.

Sorry, village idiot here. What is the benefit of doing this? Are you trying to gain capacity?

Side note...... if Ford would have done this, the RBV's wouldn't have leaned to the left, and we wouldn't have had the "Ford Rant" thread a couple days ago.

Bobby,
I dont believe the jeep has an in tank regulator. This pump/tank is from a 93 with 5.2L (but they are all the same). I'll admit i know nothing about this except the tank is a perfect fit and the info I posted on the pumps. I figure I can put it in and the worst that can happen is it dont work.
I'm moving the tank from the side to the back in preparation for my axle swap and rear 4 link. Seems the side tank is all in the way. I was going to put a fuel cell in the back hatch area but safety concerns have led me to this.

Why are you thinking of add it instead of the stock Explorer tank... ?

I'd be thinking of adding one In-addition-to the stock tank....

Not trying to dis you or anything but have you thought about the sending unit/gas gauge compatibility?

I would think those numbers you posted are close enough to work fine.

the advantage of having a second aux tank like i do is you don't have to worry about the gauge or sending unit. fill up both tanks, switch on the aux tank, run it til it goes empty, then switch to the original tank (with the gauge) and you know how much you have left.

The purpose isn't for additional capacity. I have to move the stock tank for my frame mounts for my 4 link. I was going to put a regular fuel cell in the rear cargo hatch but since I haul my family in here I was worried about fumes and spills. I have seen some use the B2 tank and I had an extra Cherokee tank laying there so I stuck it up where the spare used to be and it happens to fit perfectly up against the body and between the framerails. The filler hose inlet is also in the perfect spot. My main concern is if the pump will flow correctly.

I had thought about the gauge but I'm not so worried about that. If it works, fine. If not, fine.

yeah, 93 is external, late 96-97 they changed them.

the late plastic jeep grand tanks are great, i used a explorer plastic tank in my e350 for extended range cruising, and the extra jeep tank as well in the van and in the ranger. i also used 150 plastic tank in the ranger as well.

wish i had an extra tank now.

i would use your sender and pump from the sploder tank, just mod them to work with the basic carriage of the jeep tank which may require you to murder the plastic case some of the ford pumps hide inside of.

pretty simple to make work.
