ive been browsing for a cheap aluminum boat between 14 and 16 feet for a while now. well i found one on the side of the road and managed to dicker the guy down to 200 bucks with a case of coors light that my friend left in my truck. i bought the boat and loaded it in my rangers bed. boat is a little bigger than i thought. had to tilt it sideways to get it on the back and it sticks off the back quite a bit. now i just need to find me a motor and a trailer and ill be good to go. oh in case you were wondering i got one that would be stable enough for my girlfriend to be comfortable in and i can also make a platform on the front seats for my late night carp shoots.

good find...i'm on the hunt for an alum boat to replace the one i just sold too...think i might have found one,but the owner's off island right now.looks like a 20 horse would scoot that one along pretty good.nice lake fisher.

damn! that would fetch a grand around these parts EASY!

i am one jealous son of a bitch.

i found a trailer im going to go pick up for 100 bucks tomorrow. might be trading a mossberg 500 for a 30hp motor. boat is rated to 40hp. ive got a 45lb thrust trolling motor i may throw on it till then. needs a paint job some sort of camo.

It just like grandpa's boat. All it needs now is a Johnson outboard from the 1930's.

like the way you towed it =) drive it down the highway!!!!

Thats how I move mine. I only have my boat maybe a mile or two from two lakes, so I never bought a trailer. Mine I stumbled on at the local consignment shop for $200 as is. I just slapped a 55lb trolling motor a co-worker sold me for $50 and that scoots plenty enough for me. Mine is a 14' and it seems a fair bit narrower than yours, since I don't tip mine sideways in the truck and I can leave the topper on.

Only photo I seem to have of it, out on Silver Lake MN:

I just keep a menards flag in the cab when I take it out. Does anyone know the limit something can stick out the truck anyways? I thought I'd heard people say 4' beyond the tailgate before a flag is needed, so with a 6' bed, about a 2' tailgate, i'm still leaving about 6' sticking out, but I have a flag everytime and ive never been pulled over in the 2 years Ive had the thing. I don't go down the highway with it really, just sorta backroads to whichever local lakes ( less than 10-15 miles) I take it to.

we have a similar boat. older 16' aluminum with a trailer and 8hp for like $600ish i believe. With the 8hp engine the boat wouldnt move when the tide was rushing(bought the boat for striper fishing). Have an older evinrude 25hp we picked up for $200. moves it nice when its running right.

Depending on the age and condition of the transom, I probably wouldnt put the 40hp its rated for on it. Ours is from the 60s and rated at 40hp but i would put 30hp tops on it. nice find though:icon_thumby:

You are correct. 4' beyond the end of the truck, and you gotta have a red flag. In fact, at night, you need to have a red LIGHT in place of the flag. (Per DOT regs, if I recall.

i just want to add to this, i know in canada it is, and i would think the states is the same, it's past the back of the vehicle, and the tailgate counts as a protrusion it's self, so 4' from the tail lights, not 4' from the end of the tail gate... if in doubt, flag it!

also canada it's a flag period, no lights required after dark

Where do you guys buy those flags at? I've just been tying a piece of bright orange ribbon tape when stuff sticks out past the tailgate.

anything red counts as a flag up here, i don't want to say it will be the same down there, because i don't know... but some people use red fabric, like an old shirt or a red shop rag, some people use the thick 6" wide danger electrical burried below tape (looks like the police line do not cross tape) and some businesses have pre made flags that are just little scraps of plastic you staple to your lumber... hell i remember when i worked for a dj company, we had a bunch of conduit hanging out of the back of one of our trucks, we used red duct tape to flag it...

but i don't think there is an official flag you need to buy...
