and of course im gonna be 3 days late on inspection and i got a bad oil leak from the pan.(the puddle i parked over had alot of oil in it....ofcourse a day before a big state inspection at my dads company) im also doing a coolant change.

when i replace the oil pan gasket where should i look for wear on the engine? should i replace any other gaskets?

have fun changing that oil pan gasket. on the back side of the motor, there are two little fingers that got around the crank area that can be a pain to get out and back in. but otherwise, check for play in your rods while your in there!

Look at the shavings in the pan, size shine other stuff like that. It will be mostly meaningless but any clueless friends who see you do this will think your awesome mechanic skillz rule. Also large shavings will indicate some irregularities.

actually my friend that'll be helping me is a better mechanic than me. but he has skillz with chevy small blocks and anything you throw in front of him. im better with ford engines and matainence.

he also bought a 98 dodge neon for 100 bucks with a broken cv shaft yesterday.

oyea. i forgot about the speedo......the needle is down by the trip reset button......whats wrong with it.

its annoying

someone must know how to fix the speedo. i dont like going 5mph(speedo) in 3rd gear:icon_twisted:

I have never had to actually replace one, but you would have to remove your instrument cluster and run the cable from the transmission to there.

i couldnt figure out how to get the cluster out a few weeks ago when i was going to try to fix the problem:annoyed:

Not sure if yours is the same as my '94 but you take out the ash tray first then its pretty simple from there.

well i got it inspected today(i hate the dmv) failed for no parking brake and the top lights on the roll bar arent allowed i guess. but the good news is its a nice driving truck and passed emmisions hc-220 allowed mine 218:dunno: carbonmonoxide-1.20 allowed mine-.57:yahoo:

but i still got the speedo problem. and i got to fix the oil leak and do the seafoam thing.

red stickers are the new thing too. everyone that was behind me got em

That cable can be a PITA to remove. Mine wasn't so bad because I removed the entire dash pad and had access to it. There is a screw under the dash that holds the cable in place, I think you could remove that screw, get it out of the speed sensor for more pull. Getting it out of the speed sensor, don't pull the clip, but expand it and pull the cable out. Otherwise you'll either damage the clip or speedo cable.
