So i bought a 1989 ford ranger for 300 bucks and discovered it was a blown head gasket got my dad to come over got the head off in a little over 3 hours if that and the head doesn't look that bad its a little rusty inside but i see the cracks, however the gasket was beyond its life span and that what bought the water in the oil. I'm also getting the head resurfaced and tested for 80$. its looks the reason it go so hot is because the thermostat was completely worn and rusted i'm replacing that as well its on 6$ at AA. I love this truck and cant wait to spruce it up. What you guys think? tried to upload pics but it will not let me.

Hi Johnny, welcome to TRS.
I'm a little concerned about the water that mixed with the oil. It could have caused problems with the lower end bearings. Now is the time to check...while the head is off. It will be a little more work to check but if you don't it could bite your ass.
As far as pics, upload your pics to a picture hosting website, NOT photobucket, then link your photos into your post. Use the little "mountain and sun" box [at the top of the reply box] and paste your link there.

If you'd like i can send to your email m dad looks he didn't see anything unusual but then again it wont hurt to check twice, i'm not sure how long the truck sat for i think it was 5 plus years but after that it still starting and ran fine i'm replacing most of everything and tune ups and changing all oils.
