Got Rear Ended, a little help please!

I've heard as long as the other person is willing to take blame, then it should not be an issue.

Btw, has anyone else been rear ended? Did it do damage to the frame?

And fineline... do you normally see people come in with bent frames, or is the frame setup sturdy enough/is the bumper giving enough?

I was rear ended couple years ago. Insurance just replaced the bumper,if I remember right the bumper and installation were around $250 and the guy that did it didn't even pull it into his shop.Just changed it out in about an hour and a half.

The frame was inspected and not damaged at all,the gal that hit me was going about 15-20mph

Good news, I had a local mechanic take a good look and the frame is fine.

As you said fineline the bumper buckeled upward and in. It took the major part of the blow.

I am now considering leaving the insurances out of this one and calling him back to just give me the money for a new bumper.

Now to find where i can get a bumper... anyone have any ideas?

Do not do this! Have his insurance cover it! You could end up with more damage than is noticeable without the bumper pulled off and having your truck inspected. While the very back end of your frame may not affect the alignment of your truck, you are entitled to having every single little piece of damage repaired that occurred from the wreck. Better off taking it to a body shop. I know it seems very simple, but unless you are willing to half ass the repair (not saying you will half ass your own work) you might as well let a shop that will fight with his insurance to get it done correctly.

The cops don't have anything better to do around here. Thats just the way it works some places. I'd rather spend the time dialing the police to get a police report than get screwed.

In my state, it didn't happen unless there is a police report. You may have let him off without paying.

I hit a deer last year in my wifes car I called the sheriff dept. They asked if the deer was dead and if it was off the road and if the car was drivable. It was pitch black in the middle of knowwear, from what i could see it was dead and it was off the road and it was just the headlight, hood and fender. They said ok, we could leave and go on about or buisness. We could call them if our insurence needed any kind of report. They didn't, we got our money in less than a week after they came a took pictures. BTW the deer was gone the next day.

You're so obsessed with squeezing every last penny as previously stated I bet you haven't even looked at your bumper and realized it's more or less one piece. On my Truck there's the bumper, 4 bolts, and the frame. It couldn't get any simpler.

You've got a decent guy who seems actually willing to fess up and pay for his mistakes, how rare is that now-a-days? and you're first thought is to come out as far ahead as possible.

You're just like my customers that want every inch of their house sprayed because they think they're somehow getting more for their money, instead of taking 30 seconds to listen to me explain that it's not necessary and that I can do just as good of a job just treating the exterior and NOT have to use toxic chemicals inside their house.

i agree a couple months ago i had a call to a lock out I'm roadside assistance, and i show up to a pt cruiser i talk with the customer for a min. I noticed the rear bumper was a different color, so i asked about it. she told me some 18 yr old kid hit her, and unfortunately he didn't have insurance. She told me that she was suing him for the repair plus, pain and suffering, lost wages due to back pain, and she is in the navy. told me she makes like 5000$ per deployment, plus regular pay. and that she has been out of work for a year. All in all she said it added up to $55000. Than she tells me she went to the jy and removed and installed bumper herself. for 30$ than as i pull away her husband gets in the car as she loads the 50 pound bag of dog food from the bottom of the cart into the back of the car in one swift movement i swear she did it faster than i would have. then she ran the cart to the corral and ran back. i wish i would have known who to call to report the fraud. cus she is f-in that kids life all up for nothin I Hate Greedy People

On my Truck there's the bumper, 4 bolts, and the frame.

Really? On my truck there are also bumper brackets that go between the frame and bumper. They bend before the bumper to help absorb some damage. The bumper on my truck is bent down due to being rear-ended also.

Well I've arranged to meet him, told him to give me 200 bucks and I won't get his insurance involved. Told him if he couldn't give me that, then we'd take it up with his insurance and Ill take as much as I could get from them.

He seems like a good guy, accepted that it was his fault and I appreciate that. If he's serious and does give me the money theres no reason for me to contact his insurance and get his rates increased.

If he really tries to **** me over.... well.... I have his name, address, insurance policy number, and tag number. Yeah.... hit and run is what im thinking.... I honestly don't think he's gonna screw with me, he has answered all my calls and is agreeing to the 200 so I see it as helping a person who's being cool with the process.

BTW my mechanic took a close look at the frame and said there wasnt any damage. I showed him that the bumper is pushed in and he told me the bumper stop (the connecting metal bracket) is moved in a bit, but it did what it was supposed to do....

I'm probably going to take the opportunity to upgrade to a roll pan like I said. I was considering one before... now I have a reason to get one.

My friend at the local Ford Dealership said a new bumper with primer would cost $370. That's with a discount he's giving me....

Thought I'd leave an update and say I have recieved the 200 dollars from the person.

He was happy to not have to deal with his insurance and I now have the money to buy my new planned roll pan. Probably won't get around to it until the summer, cant wait

Yesterday I was getting gas and was waiting for the tank to fill. A older man pulled up to the traffic light in a nice older Ranger. I am looking the Ranger over when a younger man rear ended him. Bent up the back of the truck. As I watched the man in the Ranger got out, looked at his truck, pulled on the bumper to see if it would come off. He stood up and shook his finger at the guy who hit him and drove off when then the light changed.
The guy in the car sat through the green light wondering what happened. By that time the Ranger was gone.
