Got caught cheating...

A Yj Wrangler.
They made them from, like 1988(?) to 1997.

Every other Jeep before and after this (not including cherokees and other more road freindly jeeps) had round headlights.

Basically, square headlights are the quickest way to identify a Yj from a Cj or Tj, both of which were heaver built, and better for off roading.

The square headlights are looked down on by some people, because thats when they started softing them up, and loosing there kind of utilitarian "go anyware" feel.

Though I have no idea what Ranger Dave meant.

Not to say these are no good, but there certainly more road friendly than the CJ, and for $300, YOU SUCK!

when the square headlight model was introduced it wasn't long before die-hard Jeep enthusists were spotted with "real Jeeps have round eyes" t shirts and such. Chrysler switched them back to round eyes rather promptly.

good thing I'm not a die hard jeep fan! I just enjoy driving this piss out of it. I have noticed that a lot of other wrangler drivers waive to me now. I didnt know jeepers waived to eachother.

It's a jeep thing. You didn't understand before :)

Yeah apparently so do mini cooper owners.

And honda owners just glare at you thinking, my v-tec is stronger than your v-tec or some crap like that.

And you don't see other scout owners driving around... and when you do, they looks just as surprised as you do.

And no one gives a care that you drive a ranger :icon_rofl:

Seriously, why don't we wave to other ranger owners?

Because not all ranger owners are as cool as us. A lot of people are d-bags and just bought the ranger because it's practical and reliable. I'd wave to anybody else rocking a TRS decal in a heartbeat though. I have also noticed that I have a slightly more rare truck color and the three or four other people around here with the same color tend to wave at me when I pass them.

When I had my Integra nobody waved at me, they all just tried to race me. Now that it's my girlfriend's car she says almost every Integra on the road waves at her. Must be something she has that I don't. :icon_confused:

YJ Wrangler, 1987-1995. Tub is almost exactly like a CJ, CJ front sheet metal is a near perfect fit (some minor trimming required...). Wider track than the CJ, back in the 80s the consumer reports rolled CJs and Samurais... AMC responded with the wider track of the YJ. Suzuki replaced the Sami. Softer ride, and more highway oriented gearing appealed to more buyers. So much so, that some refer to the YJ and the "Yuppy Jeep"... The first couple years of the YJ had the same 4.2L carbed motor as the CJ, but the 4.0 was introduced in 91 or so. The YJ frame is actually stiffer and more solid than the earlier CJs, so frame cracks at the leaf spring mounts aren't as prevalent.

And the square headlights stayed until the introduction of the TJ, which returned to round headlights.

Just trying to fill the gaps.

AMC? Okay that begs to ask, when did Chrysler get Jeep? For my whole life a Jeep has be a CHRYSLER product.

"Chrysler, Jeep, and Eagle"

When did Chrysler buy Jeep and was there a firestorm in the Jeep community?

Also was the Jeep Cherokee(early 90's) a Chrysler design? It has square headlamps.:icon_confused:

The marque has gone through many owners, starting with Willys, which produced the first Civilian Jeep (CJ) in 1945 and who were the first granted the trademark in 1950. Willys was sold to Kaiser Motors in 1953, which became Kaiser-Jeep in 1963. American Motors (AMC) purchased Kaiser's money-losing Jeep operations in 1970. The utility vehicles complemented AMC's passenger car business by sharing components, achieving volume efficiencies, as well as capitalizing on Jeep's international and government markets.

The French automaker Renault began investing in AMC in 1979. However, by 1987, the automobile markets had changed and even Renault itself was experiencing financial troubles. At the same time, Chrysler Corporation wanted to capture the Jeep brand, as well as other assets of AMC. Chrysler bought out AMC in 1987, shortly after the Jeep CJ-7 was replaced with the AMC-designed Jeep Wrangler or YJ. Chrysler merged with Daimler-Benz in 1998 to form DaimlerChrysler. DaimlerChrysler eventually sold most of their interest in Chrysler to a private equity company in 2007. Chrysler and the Jeep division now operate under the name Chrysler Group LLC.

Funny side note, when I went to pep boys to get wiper blades for my mom's 2006 Grand Cherokee their little "wiper blade finder" computer had the Grand Cherokee listed under "AMC Truck"

I'm not sure chrysler got them, but the old flat fender Jeeps were made by Willys. Some of the military Jeeps were even made by Ford, when Willys just couldn't make them fast enough.

As a side note, the 93-98 Grand Cherokee was the last official AMC design produced. Originally supposed to replace the wildly popular XJ, the ZJ was slightly bigger inside, the decision was made to produce it along with the XJ and move the ZJ upscale...

Bantam designed the Jeep, political clout placed the contract with Willy's for main production (Bantam honestly didn't have the manufacturing capacity to build what the Army wanted). Ford was asked to help when Willy's couldn't keep up with demand. Ford GPWs had the Ford oval and script on every part and bolt, as ole Henry himself warranted the Fords...

That Wrangler for $300 was a steal brotherman... Good for you and hope you have a great time with it.

and a DAMN good design at that. My neighbor has a '95 white Grand Cherokee, he has it modified for trail use, and can do SOME rock crawling, has the back glass plastered with stickers.:icon_thumby:
