Goofy Computer

Trying to get a different computer working at work, it is a 6 year old desktop with XP and it isn't hooked up to the internet or anything. It worked fine when we took it down a year ago at home but now either locks up at startup with everything repeated in a diagonal line or after it comes up with the Windows XP startup bar (that loads left to right) it plain shuts off.

Ideas?

Possibly RAM stick gone/going bad? Have you tried swapping them, or removing one/two to see if that helps?

Ram is something to check for sure. First thought that came to mind for me was power supply.
