Goodbye Old Friend

It seemed like a good idea at the time, until I started to do the timing belt. Its a nice driving car, lots of room, lots of get up and go, and i can seat 5 people, take the rear seats out, and fold the passenger seat flat for cargo room. A buddy of mine wants me to help him move up to Edmonton on monday. If I still had the truck he wouldn't have asked because of the gas hog that was, and the space it had with the subs in the back. This car is amazing on gas, 125km on this tank of gas and i just broke the full mark, my ranger would be at the 2/3 mark at this point, probably closer to 1/2 mark.

in all fairness, it is black and chrome with blacked out windows (everyone but the windshield), so people wont be able to see me, so the cool "Mysterious" factor just went up a little bit, I'm now a 2 on the 1-10 coolness scale while pimpin' the PT Loser.

think its time to forget about the mustang and just toss that v8 i n the mazda

thats alittle better i guess

ya know. if you really actually dont know why she can potentially get 25 and your boy only gets 19...it will have to stay that way, cause i just dont have the time to try to explain this.

and if your guy has the 4.0 and not the 3.8...well, thats half the problem right there...

Well I have no expirience with the 3.8L mustangs and I don't know what year it is or anything, the only 3.8L I know are the few from people with thunderbirds and they don't get that good of gas mileage (say 15mpgs) and they take premium. But I do know they had 4 cyl. mustangs as my freind also owns one of those and it got around 25mpgs It was a fox body though. and yes the new one he has is a 2007 GT with the 4.0L but maybe not gt not sure about that. and he got 19 and was being as careful as possible (shifting at 2500 everytime) plus the fact that we only have one stop light in town or actually the only stop light for 70 miles, so his 19 is mostly highway.

Do not judge my knowlege. (*insert evil stare here*)

I know a girl in town that has a mustang with a 3.8L v6, its white with a tan interior and tan converible top (not good for 5 degree weather in the winter), her parents pay for like everything and I don't know the gas mileage on it but its got to be good I guess because she drives to anchorage like every other weekend (220 miles one way), and also her insurance is still lower then mine by like 2-300$ every 6 months (and her parents were complaining:icon_surprised:) I'm a way safer drive partially owing to the fact my tires will limit my speed. Lol

the 3.8 at least in its newest version of the 4.2l is a pretty good motor i get about 19-20mpg on the highway with 3.55 gearing in my f150 thats on 85 octane gas

Alright, well the Mazda might be getting lucky.

No one seems to want it right now, so it's staying here till someone offers a good trade.

Needs all new cats, spark plugs/wires, 8.8, etc etc. I can't want to buy all that.

Plugs and wires are cheap, and I got the cat on my Ranger replaced for $100 even. Including both parts and labor.

Given instead of installing two cats, like it shoulda been, only had one welded up.

Just sounds like your Mazda needs a little tender loving care, of the general maintenance variety.

It needs a lot of love and care.

Anyone in FL/GA/SC have an 8.8 they don't want?

I'm suprised nobody mention that earlier..

Something is defentally wrong there.. I have an auto, 3.73's, and 33's with a 4.0L and I get almost 19mpg Highway. Granted I get 12-13 city..

I mentioned that earlier in the thread. Something is definitely wrong.

7 MPG.. My gawd, I was driving a 6,000lb F-250 with the aerodynamics of a brick wall and getting 12mpg. Take that damn thing to a compitent mechanic and have it fixed. You should be getting mid teen mpg in the city and close to if not more than 20 on the highway.

I always try to convince myself to buy another "newer" vehicle because I need it for this or that reason, but I always fall back on the fact I have no car payment right now and I can a good bit of maintenance for the cost of one payment.

My '96 4.0 gets about 15mpg/city 20mpg/hwy....and if its a highway trip longer than say....50 miles, gets anywhere from 25-29mpg.

Other than horrid gas mileage and a screwy bumper/crossmember, whats wrong with it? Does the motor run rough at all?

Your 7.5 rear-end doesn't count as an all out nessecity...especially if you were considering a GT.... which cant go muddin in the slightest. The bumper doesnt count as a viable problem either. I've been driving my ranger around with the whole right side of the box dented in, smaller dents going up the entire length of the passenger side of the truck, and the driver side fender is dented a bit. Its been that way for 3 years now.
