what is a good trucker gps that will keep you away from posted roads, low under passes. something to be safe and savvy out there

go to the rv sites or even the trailer owing site here. This has been discussed there several times. Garmin has one, as does rand mcnalley, and tom tom. There is an outfit that sells a program that will work with some garmins that accepts POI's light height width etc. Most of this is for rv's but is applicable to OTR as well. If nothing else go to a big truck stop and look there.

here is a link to some discussion:

I work for a trucking company. Rand McNally is very popular with truckers.

Been driving trucks since 1982. Back when you had to read a map. I have heard good things about the Rand McNally too. I have never used one though. I use Google on my phone now. Get it all in my head and drive.

Dune Ranger,

Yeah that's how I learned to. But this really helps when your in a city that you don't know and it help to avoid low underpasses. Nothing like backing up a good mile because you cant get under the railroad bridge in St. Louis. Been there - done that. Also helps with logging you book and keeping track of your fuel..

Hey so do you live in the "old Alpine" or the "new Alpine"?.

Oh...! I used to live there back in the late 80's when it was just a quiet town.. Before they started building all the new houses all over the place.

I used to live next to what used to be COX cable. Just about a hundred yards east of Bay Meadow and Alpine Blvd.

Not saying the new houses are bad, but caused a lot of problems back then with the "new money people" and the people that lived there for a long time. Just the way it is I quess

Gotcha, I live down on Arnold Way just off Tavern Rd. No new money here, Or old money either. I do see the "well off" people at the new Albertsons though. In there buying wine and such. Got their nose in the air acting all stuffy. This town has grown for sure.
