Putting my 1998 Ranger 3.0 4x4 back together and need the usual wear parts- Suspension, btakes, steering, belts, plugs, etc.. Tried my usual go-to websites like NAPA, Advance Auto. etc. and they've become useless- Trying to sell me everything I need, their house brands only, out of stocks, etc.. I'm in Minnesota, and suggestions for better parts sources?

I use rock auto. I go to them first for prices and more than that, part numbers. You can take part numbers from different manufacturers on rock auto, put the part number in a google search, and see what comes up from other websites.

I concur rock auto is great for part numbers and is often cheaper, but where they get you is the shipping. Often times you can find the same part on amazon with free shipping.

lmctruck.com is another great source for obscure non-mechanical parts.

RockAuto is rough on shipping. I have found that if I'm order a couple large items (like rotors) and several smaller ones I can get them all to ship together if I'm careful. Add the heavy items first and go ahead and calculate shipping. Then add the smaller items watching the shipping total. If it changes dramatically, time to remove the last item you added and try again with a different brand.

rockauto for me too, or i will take the part number and put it in amazon because they are generally cheaper if they have the part

If you must go OEM parts, if Rock Auto doesn't have it, check Tasca. If for nothing else, to get part numbers but their prices are normally not horrible. LMC Truck is a good option for hard to find parts, short of raiding a salvage yard. The Bronco Graveyard is a good place to check as well.

Watch for fakes on Amazon.

Ebay also, sometimes you can find NOS stuff on there too.

I’ve played the online parts game and gotten burned a few times. I have my own business so I finally just got a commercial account at Autozone. Greatly simplified things. Discounts and delivery. If I need something they don’t have or I need OEM, or if something seems way overpriced, I’ll go looking online. Tasca or RA mostly but I hate how the RA shipping is and I hate the lack of customer service with RA.

Does anybody know anything about 1a auto? They have a great motto, but I’m not sure if it’s true or not. They are supposed to be a high quality parts brand and their motto being “Not all parts are created equal.”

I have no personal experience with them and I don't recall ever hearing anything bad about them.

i have never even heard of them

They do great how to videos. I had one order from them that went smoothly, brake hardware IIRC.

This is true. But if Amazon doesn't have it, pretend to buy what you need from Autozone or one of the local parts stores. Then add it up Rockauto with the shipping added. The majority of the time it is still cheaper to pay the shipping and get it from Rockauto if you are not in a hurry to get it. And of course warranty plays a part in it also.

Advance has decent discounts IF they have it in stock at the store and IF you order and pay for it online and then go pick it up. Saves a few dollars over Autozone.

I’m considering getting my next set of brakes from 1A Auto, from what I’ve seen in their videos they are definitely higher quality then the O’reilly’s house brand.
