"No live organism can continue for long to exist sanely under conditions of absolute reality; even larks and katydids are supposed, by some, to dream. Hill house, not sane, stood by itself against its hills, holding darkness within; it had stood so for 80 years and might for 80 more. Within, walls continued upright, bricks met neatly, floors were firm, and doors sensibly shut; silence lay steadily against the wood and stone of Hill House, and whatever walked there, walked alone."

It is the opening paragraph to a book.

this book has been made into a movie twice. Once in 1963 and again in 1999. The 1999 version sucked. the 1963 version even tho it was in black and white was quite good.

The book?

The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson. good read. it will give you the creeps. The first movie is a fairly good representation of the book. the second movie just reinforces my notion that remakes suck. (with few noteable exceptions...)

I'll have to see if I can find both movies and watch them. Although I'm not a fan of scary movies. lol (more proof I'm actually a girl.)

That '99 remake was a POS!

I read the book , never saw the '63 version. I guess I'll have to check that one out. :icon_cheers:
