heres the story im starting my own painting buisness and need a pick up. so allready owning a bll ,doesnt run right. I start looking for a cheap ranger thinking if the ranger f@#$ up i can rob parts from the bll. so i find a 85 4x4 stick shift 2.9 with a 7 foot 4 way plow and 4 inch lift with 33s for 1200. looks decent in the pics I saw little rust dented hood bla bla. so i call the guy up ,he says ya it runs good i only bought it for plowing my driveway. warns me its got 4 56 gears not for the highway and asks if i want it for a toy. i explain my sittuation and he says ...by they way i have a very strong running 2.9 motor also sitting here. so i tell him ya im ganna swing by and look.and mabie eather way ide be interested in the motor. and he says its a package blew a tranie on the other truck take em both so at this point im droooooling and he says o ya ive got a winch bumper...no winch and the lifted truck also has onbord air did i just win the lottery? tranny swap out of bll and 2 rangers for 1200 dam, what do you guys think:headbang::headbang:

id be all over it.. if its an 85 chances are its a 2.8 CARB... either way for 1200 the bumpers/ lift/tires are worth it.. take a look at it an snap some pics!

sounds like a steal, it took me 3 times of reading it till i realized you were getting 2 trucks for 1200 bucks including a plow, winch bumper and other goodies. just keep in mind you usually get way you pay for, some times its just not up front cost. if you are in my area (cleveland OH) i would think about making my way down to purchase some left over parts.

please dont buy it on me just wanted to post pics:icon_cheers:

'84 and '85 will be a 2.8 with carb.

Look under the hood. If it has the EFI 2.9 it is an '86 or later.

That said, steal it legally!

ya i know it came with the 2.8 but its not the original motor...now i also belive these arnt the stock axles cause its allready regeard whats a easy way to tell the differance between dana 28/35 number of bolts on pumpkin?:icon_confused:

You're starting your own business, but you want to put it off to do various swaps?

Not very good business sense.

Pick up a truck that RUNS and is appropriate for your needs (painting jobs without using the highway? BAD idea) and it will pay for itself in a few jobs. You should be able to get one of the vintage you're looking for for less than that.

Spares are a good idea, but the important thing is to get your business started and the cash flowing.
