Does any one know a sneeky but legal way on getting out of my contract with thease people. Looking for something that is a little to no cost way of leaving them early?

I too am trapped in AT&T hell. Haven't found a way out yet other than buying out, but I have managed to get my bill lowered by about $40/month. If you call and start asking about your buy out costs they go into "keep the customer" mode. You may be surprised at how many ways they can trim your bill without affecting what you actually use. Lots of extra taxes and fees and useless features you probably don't even realize you're paying for that fatten the bill up.

As soon as our contract is up the wife and I are doing the Straight Talk show.

You never escape ATT. Spent two months calling and reminding/yelling at them about cancelling account and service 90 days prior...still got bills. Kept a record after month 2 and sent it all to the TX Attorney General's office. ATT quit calling and sending bills. You never escape them, even when you skate out of your contract.

Straight talk uses AT&T towers so your signal will be the same. Service and price may be better, quality will not change.

As for getting out of your contract early, about the only way is to just not pay the bill and let them cancel you. Then when they take you to collections, pay the bill and your done.

I have never once had a problem with ATT and I have had them for over five years.

It costs a bit more to have them yes. But I like to get a new phone every year or so and not pay outright for it.

Straight talk is okay but you obviously have to buy your phone outright and no one is going to pay 600 bucks for a phone and then have to go to walmart to buy phone cards to keep it activated. Plus, unless you have some sort of aftermarket insurance on it then you better walk on eggshells with your expensive phone. Because if it breaks, you are out a good deal of money on top of the money it costs to buy another one of equal value.

I like the fact that ATT covers my phone should something happen too it, because I have had to make insurance claims a few times and they always have a new phone at my door in two days, tops. Around where I live they have awesome service.

On top of it, they have decent customer service. And sadly I cannot even say close to that about Straight Talk. After my ATT contract expired I contemplated switching to straight talk. What a mistake. I called them to order a sim to put into my ATT android and they charged me not once not twice, but three times for ONE sim card! I got charged 150 bucks for one sim card. I called them, and after talking on the phone for a collective total of 10 hours with people who could barely speak English I got my money back (in 3-5 business days of course). I will never use a company that does that to their customers.

I like the big phone companies for the ease of use, the updated technology and the fast networks. Straight talk uses ATT towers, but their network is not nearly as fast.

If you are not a person that uses their phone for a lot of purposes, you could easily get by with straight talk. However, I use my phone daily in college and at work for everything from business contacts to statistical analysis of run time reports. A speedy network and updated technology is a must for me. If you only use your phone for making calls, sending texts and browsing the net a little bit then straight talk is okay. If you can get passed their CSAs that are sitting half way across the world and the fact that if you break a phone you are out of money and have to buy a new one out of your own pocket.

I have sprint so I'm not sure if it would work with att, but people have been dropped by using roaming to much.

I had att for about a decade. Here in Seattle, its the best. I'm on T-Mobile now, and even though my bill is halved, call quality, and network speed aren't nearly as good.

If I wasn't so poor, id switch right back to att, but that'll have to wait till I can find a job

i had att for a while, i was a year or so into my 2nd 2 year contract when i decided to switch to virgin mobile. i walked into an att store and told them to cancel me. the fee ended up on my last bill. i did the math before i cancelled, it was cheaper for me to cancel and switch than to wait out the remainder of the contract. now i pay $35 a month for no contract service. unlimited text and data, 350 mins a month. i bought my phone outright for $170 on black friday a year ago. under warranty for the first year, after that youre on your own. at that point youve saved more than $170 that a new phone would cost anyways! it can be well worth it if you do your research and play your cards right.

I'm on Sprint. Love the unlimited data, text and 1500 talk that me and my fiancee share. Yes AT&T has better coverage but our phones are also our house internet that we take anywhere ( do they know that, nope). I pay as much as land line phone, internet and tv would cost me but the advantage is, I guess with me everywhere. If it wasn't for their limited data, I would have gone with them, but I can easily use 30 gigs a month with just my phone. As for the roaming thing with Sprint, I have yet to have a problem despite the many times I have roamed, my bill has never shown me doing it, I do have my phone set to data roam. I do know of one person who got kicked off Sprint for the roaming thing but he is now on tmobile.

I like my AT&T...

AT&T has the worst coverage I've ever seen. I had Verizon for many years, great service up until I needed a family plan type setup, then all of a sudden the bill was going up every month, Verizon could never answer why, and finally I had enough, after several times requesting to cancel my service I finally just shut the power off to the phones and went to Cricket, now I pay $35/45/55 a month depending on which type of phone system I want. You have to buy the phone outright but I also don't think I need a $600 phone either. I have the same service, or well actually turns out better service with Cricket, now I have to turn my phone off when I'm camping because for some damn reason I now have service in areas I never had with Verizon LOL.

The big contract carriers are nothing but thieves, every time you turn around they're taking more and more money from you, and never, ever have the bill paid automatically from your checking account or credit card that's one way they get by with overcharging because many people don't bother to keep track of their bills. Pretty soon you have a $300 phone bill with no explanation as to why and of course your phone carrier sure as hell isn't going to fix it for you, nor tell you what the charges are.

When I moved to my new place att. Had no service out here. So I stopped my service by just riding out the contract and not paying expecting to get a 300$ bill.... 300 turned to 600.. then a few months later I got a bill from a collection agency for 1500$ + there fee on the bill.

Straight Talk has a BYOP (bring your own phone) plan too. Just a $6 Sim card and a 30 day unlimited plan and off you go. Most phones are compatible. You can check beforehand to see if your current phone will work.

I'll keep using AT&T as a carrier, just pay less for it. Going with Straight Talk I can have four phones for the monthly bill of two, with only the cost of a couple of refurbished iPhones for my girls and some sim cards for the up front cost. Plus, they know that if they lose or break them, they're out if luck.

I guess we'll see how it goes. Everyone has to make the choice that's best for them.

ST makes a lot of sense.... it really does.
Might have to look into it once I get off my family share plan.

The only problem with AT&T for me is the service, but then again I live in the middle of nowhere...
