good blocks?

IIRC you take the block, get a 3.25 stroke crank and bore 30 over

HI!... I'd go 351W. Why spend $3000 for a EAGLE stroker kit to make a 302 into a 347 when you can do the same to a 351W and make it a 408. That's what I did. You can make 500-600H.P on pump gas in N/A trim all day long. Try to use a 69 - 79 351W. They are stronger and have more nickle in the block than the newer blocks.
thanks for your input but i made it clear i was not interested.
Ok, I'm not trying to argue the point that a 351W would be a better swap for power wise, but the OP has made it very clear time and time again that he is only interested in a 302, so to all members posting after this reply please do not respond with a different block would be a better swap....Thanks members:icon_thumby:
SVT
thanks dude
HI!... Well I thought I read somewhere that he wanted to stroke it to 347C.I . That's why I posted. Why spend the money to stroke a 302 to 347 when you can get another 61C.i for the same price. Makes sense to me.:icon_thumby:
maybe i like 302s sheesh

Yeah, he's looking at the idea of goin 331, he doesn't like the 347's short skirts on the pistons....but yeah, a 351 would do more power with less $$, but he wants to stay 302 no matter the cost...Just the clarification I was doing:icon_thumby:

bingo i did say i was looking at 331's, not the seemly problematic 347's. and since it will be all carb im strayin away from the 351's. possibly in the future. and to be honest i would never want 5-600horsepower, id have to put 20 g's into the drivetrain to make it stand up to that and i dont want to do that.
i want a reliable 300-350 rwhp pump gas engine that hits the highway at less then 5000rpm and get a lil milage while doin it. plus the 331 would give me the power to turn 33's with ease and thats all i want.
plus if this engine only costs 3 grand ill be very pleased.
(block, stroker kit n heads = over 2500) +machine work?
maybe i need to keep my budget under control and rethink this whole 331 thing. maybe stick to a 306 or (306 after boring) getting decent machine work.
plus i need to pick some headers...
my dad said stock stang manifolds would b fine but i dont want to find out and wait 2 weeks for swap headers to show up.
anyone got suggestions?

and since it will be all carb im strayin away from the 351's.

351W's were made with carburators for quite while, so don't count them out just because of that.

HI!... :icon_confused:

351W's were built from "69" - "96"...............:icon_thumby:
unfortunately my lack of 351 windsor knowledge has surfaced:icon_rofl:
ok ok ok so maybe a 351 windsor is a smarter way to go but so what. its more impressive if i spank a 429 powered dodge with a 302 than a 351 so grrr go away haha.
if i dont like the 302 i promise all the darned 351 guys ill sell the 302 n buy a 351 ok?

HI!... You can always go with a 351C (Cleveland) too.......:icon_thumby::icon_rofl::D

and i happen to have one!
haha but i dont think squeezin that engine would b much fun haha.
i know a lil bout clevelands i have gotten to work on a few, as my dad does car restoration in the down time for his flooring business.
the cars are all funded by my boss (as it was before i started workin for him)
and we get to work on em, drive em, show em off...
its where i learned what i know by gettin greasy haha
anywho i found some e7's for 25$ should i buy em?

I've only been hinting to slam the cleveland under the hood of your truck, its been sitting forever collecting dust.

see theres my problem.
significantly reduce the cost of my build sacrificing my extreme performance desires,
or be broke and go really fast haha

Cleveland distributors are hard to find ? Really !! Same unit fits the 429/460 family too. Plus the 351M/400. Want one ? I've got at least two cores, one a points unit, the other a Duraspark. Your freindly neighborhood parts house has all you can afford as well.
