I have had it with this wishy washy screwball outfit. Due to a serious back injury, I have been lowered down to a security guard. The company I work for does not have a clue as to what they are doing. When I was in the military, fireguard duty was more strict than this company. The rules change day by day and the residents here tell us how to run the gate. This is a upscale residential housing development, people like Jerry Rice and Ricky Reynolds have homes here to stay at when they are here. One resident had a visitor, was not on the list, and when the guard had the visitor call the resident, the resident became upset, so now if you are not on the after hours list, we are to issue a pass any ways and send them in. Do you see the problem here?

This F*&^#!G company worries more about appearance than anything else, do not want to upset so and so, you have a goatee that we hired you with, you had it for 6 months here, but now we want you to shave it, all the while that they are concerned about my goatee and the night guards mustache, 3 cars are stolen, 2 homes broken into, new model homes are vandalized, the clubhouse swimming pool someone took a dump in, Flags and markers stolen from the golf course, 2 golf carts stolen.....the list goes on and on, and they have no answer for this, but held a meeting to have the 2 of us guards shave a neatly trimmed goatee and mustache off.

I will make guard #7 leaving since October. To bad I am not a crook, I know a easy security guarded place to hit. This company is getting ready for a major fall, and I just don't want to be a part of it when it goes down. The laws have changed drastically for security, and just not worth me losing my license for life.

Now to figure out what type of job I can do, I am damn near crippled. Doc's have put the paper work in for Disability on me, but good old Florida moves as fast as a snail on this.

Cue the theme song to Caddyshack: "I'm alright, don't nobody worry 'bout me...." :D

A bad job that you hate sucks a big one. Hang in there, man; I hope that something better comes your way soon, and good luck.

Goatees were a homosexual symbol in the 1300s. I don't know why everyone suddenly decided to start wearing them again. I always assume men with goatee's are gay.

I would go with the flow. Learn the politics of it and go with it. I had a job like that once. Instead of celebrities is was inverted foreign service peole with flag rank causing the problems. A person with 30 years in the Diplomatic Service doesn't want a 25 year-old kid telling them they can't take this or that super important guest through the hardline without going through the metal detector and getting a badge. You have to learn that the rules need to be enforced, but that as the peon, you have to get smart about how you enforce them. Rather than picking up some guy you don't know and body slamming him down the stairs and then using his body to open a 500# hardline door--only to find out he is the director of Royal Dutch Shell--you make sure he goes through the metal detector, accepting the scowl, and then call the secretary and get the name on the appointment and then send the badge up. Both sides bend a little. Life is politics. If you can't find a way to be happy in one situation, you'll find a way not to be happy in another.

so.....you're saying stay with a job he hates and conform to their rules as they are made up? Will, i usually respect your advice, but i gotta say you are wrong on this one. not alot of people are fortunate to have a job they love, but most have a job they can tolerate.

Reno--go to college for like computers or engineering or something that will put you at a desk, get a good paying job, and work with your head, not your back.

btw--i know a 375 lb leather clad biker that would argue the gay goatee thing....

sounds like that biker's real angry about being gay

I had a job that I loved, at first when I got that job, I was just gonna keep it for a short while, but really started liking it. Spent 7 years doing it, and making mad money easy. Now, no one will touch me. Been hurting so badly the last few weeks, I went to see my doc yesterday for a shot to releive the pain and ask him about some job offers I had. 3 job offers + 1 shot = No, I am to be evaluated for a Tens (I guess that is how you spell it) unit.
I am learning A/C (self taught) and would like to go into that, but problem is is all the heavy lifting at times. I would like to weld, but cannot get a guarantee that I would not have to handle heavy material on my own. I have a job offer for Appliance repair, now this place expects all its employees to wear back supports and use of dollies and 2 man lifts, but doc is worried that I will have to do it on my own. I have an AA degree in Electrical Engineering\Computer Technology, its just no one wants to pay you in that field, when I first got out of college, I must have applied at 30 places, about 14 called me for an interview and all 14 offered to pay my $7.35 Hr to solder circuit boards. I was doing Maint for $10 Hr, this was like 12 years ago.
I'm praticing CAD\CAM design as well, I like Unigraphics, just hard to learn.

reno you are not alone, i am officially sick and tired of my boss and my job, i have had 6 or 7 teamleaders here and a few have been great, a few bad but this one is so far the worst of them, a few weeks ago he sent out an email declaring that we (the entire facility) have a communication issue, and it starts with him!! the parts i make i dont know if they are good or bad because no one knows what the specs are, they change daily, depending whats in your email inbox, i dont like the way the place is changing and the direction it is taking.

thats why in a couple months when the other building's expansion is complete im going to work the weekend shift over there most likely....it would allow me to go to school for :icon_welder: during the week so it all works out:D

That is what I am wanting to do!! :icon_welder:

I want to learn to Tig. I have a Mig at home and Stick, lost my Torch set awhile back. Can't afford the Plasma cutter either. Harbor Freight is the cheapest I found so far too, about $1,100. I have seen it on sale for $950 and $875, but still to rich for my blood.

I spoke with the Lt this morning and he agrees with me, but says his hands are tied. I told him I guess I will let any one in so they don't argue with me and call about me to get me fired, I really don't care if I see a bag of Burglary tools in their car,in they go. I asked him if I could just lift the gates for my shift and then I would not have to worry about confrontations, after all I am a security guard, why confront someone, I need to look Impressionable and Professional.....:derisive::haha:

hey reno do you carry while being a security guard?

I have the License, it is a G license, and am applying for the CCW permit, but I refuse to use it for this company, so at this particular post, no I do not carry.

Now when I get to my truck, that is a different story.......:derisive::secret:

Welcome to the world of Corporate America. It doesn't have to make sense to the worker as long as the company is turning a profit! Ya it SUCKS!

I would second the notion to get into computers...I hurt my back about 15 years ago and it doesn't get any better once it's done, it's done...physical labour jobs are completely out of the question...I may be fine for quite a while then "bam" can't walk or stand up for a few days...

If you have any pull with the military services organizations you might be able to get paid to go to school...I know they offer this to Canadians but not sure about USA...
