The AC in my 86 2.9 ranger 4x4 stick didn't work when I bought it & I don't plan on it ever being repaired.

So it is just a lot of stuff in my way. Is there any reason not to pull out the compressor & hoses etc. (compressor has it's own belt)

It'll make it just a little easier to get to the things I do need to fix.

Thanks

ripped mine out a long time ago, everything but the big plastic box on the firewall. It cleaned up the engine bay nicely.

u should be able to convert the ac pump for on board air its in the tech section might be handy good luck

i've been wondering about this too.... i've taken my ac/compressor out and replaced it with a "bypass" pulley for about $20 so i kept the belts and everything, just no AC comp.

my heater works.... thats all i need!

haha

The "Big plastic box" on the firewall is the easiest part to get rid of...

There are THREE studs that stick out of the firewall and you need an 11mm or7/16" socket to remove the nuts, then you kneel on the ground wiht your head in the passenger side footwell to find the one stud that goes INSIDE the cab and then the box comes right off the firewall...

One STRONG word of advice, on a Gen1 truck you will want to put a piece of window screen between the firewall box and the firewall proper.
This keeps the leaves that fal into the air intake slots in the cowl from getting themselves into the blower fan (where they make noise) into the blower fan resistor
(where they make burning leave smells) and into the ducts (where they blow into the interior and onto you.)

BTW, when you remove the compressor bracket you will need to substitute a washer where it goes between the two pieces of the P/S bracket that the compressor bracket is sandwiched between...

tanbuddy, if you want help swing on by, it only takes half an hour to swap it out. and makes the engine compartment SUPER ROOMY.
