I decided that I am going to stay with my 2.0L. My friend and I are going to take the engine out and go through it to see what they did wrong.

I need to know where I can get quality parts to put back in it once we figure out what is wrong with it.

So where can I get quality rebuild parts for my 2.0L?

If I'm getting machine work done I'll get the shop to order for me. Otherwise brand name parts from a local place with a good return/warranty system.

Good to hear Dan...

This was where I upgraded to a 2.3 many years ago...but since you need to pull it and it isn't running right then rebuilding is as good as anything...

Not sure where you would find the parts but like Richard said...contacting an engine builder might be a good idea...as long as you order directly from the supplier so you don't pay another markup cost...

I've seen rebuild kits on a few websites that I've looked at so just a matter of doing a bit of a search for your zip code and contacting someone...if you haven't already done so...

A learning experience with more win...:)

I've had reasonable luck with parts from RockAuto.com as a few months ago I rebuilt the engine for my Tracker with parts from there, and I just rebuilt the engine for my Ranger with parts from there too... 3 years ago I rebuilt the engine in the Ranger with parts from there too, but it wasn't the parts that made me have to rebuild it... that was the nut behind the wrenches not torqueing the rod bolts correctly...

That would be the LOOSE nut behind the wrenches, to be exact.

Most parts sources sell reasonable replacements. You can get name-brand parts at reasonable prices from online sellers, or local parts stores.
When you buy a 'kit', you mostly leave the decision up to the seller as to what will be replaced. I would determine what the problem is before doing any repairs.
Unless you are going to have the cylinders bored, you can do most engine 'repairs' with the engine still in place. Simple disassembly, cleaning, replacement of 'wear' items, and honing the cylinders will give good results in a lot of cases. New piston rings, rod and main inserts, cleaning of the valves and lapping the seats will give a pretty well running engine in the majority of cases. It will not fix scored cylinder walls or worn out camshafts, of course.
If I had a 2.0 that was burning oil, misfiring, or severly down on power, before doing work on it, I would be poking around on craigslist for a complete 2.3, available in a lot of cases for less than $500, as a drop-in with more power. I'd inspect closely before purchase...
