Going shopping... will these parts work together?

I want to put my 302 on the engine stand to change the oil pan gasket, is it ok to put it on with the aluminum spacer plate still on it? I dont want to crush the aluminum.
Will I still be able to change the pan gasket?

Yeah, but be carefull around the starter hole. It is easy to snag and bend it and surprisingly tough to get straight again.

Using the HO cam in the Vic motor shouldn't have been an issue at all. This is the same combination of parts Ford used in the 86 Stang HO motor, albeit with forged pistons instead of cast. I suspect the cam timing probably was the culprit here.

The cam timing was right on. The cam came out of the old Mustang engine and was installed with a new timing chain set into the Crown Vic engine. I did not degree the cam in but it was installed straight up with the new timing set. I cant tell you why it had P2V problems but it did one that engine.

Could have been weak valve springs ? Or the timing set marks were off ? Who knows ?

Thanks, I've got it on there now. The engine stand was still set on a small block Chevy pattern from when it was used last... 19 years ago lol.

Maybe the heads had been milled?

I dont think that the heads were milled as they were right off of an engine and were just cleaned and reused. Its posible that the springs could have been weak and timing set was fine as it was reused on a diffrent engine. Any ways who knows why and I have never tryed that combo since. Just posting up my past problem with a Crown Vic engine and a HO cam.

Just throwing that out there, since I also have the same engine I have an interest in this too.

Thinkin about it now and your saying it only happened at 4500 and above, I'd think it was the springs holding the valves open too long.
