I think this applies to all manufacturers

No vehicle manufacture has the corner on quality anymore. Some still tend to be better than others, but they still have their issues.

Ford certainly has theirs, and thus is no exception. I would still rather own a Ford over a Chevy/GMC, or a Ram/Jeep.

I will give Stelantis credit on knowing how to make a good looking turd. They certainly know how to make a good looking vehicle, most of the time. Reliability on the other hand, makes them a turd.

Totally agree that Stellantis is doing a great job with styling, whether it's Dodge or Jeep or Fiat or whichever - I don't know how much the Italians have to do with that but you'd have to think they have a hand in it.
If you watch any of the popular YouTube techs though... I wouldn't touch anything they make with a 20-foot pole. Whether it's non-replaceable relays built into the fuse box or lifters that eat cam lobes (seems to happen on everything they make!), the cost-cutting corners they cut are unforgivable. Hard pass.

We have a bunch of fleet vehicles at work that are mostly Ram & GM trucks, a bunch of Suburbans, and a bunch of Dodge/Chrysler/GM minivans. By FAR the GM vehicles have been unreliable junk. Stellantis has a reputation but I'm not sure it deserves it as much as everyone believes - we are getting more miles out of their vehicles for a lot less money than anything comparable from GM.

We've had a few Fords as well, not sure why we don't have more, the business office just doesn't buy them. Usually "cost effective" is what they are looking for.

I have to say when I worked for a company with fleet trucks, all the OLD trucks were Fords and just kept hanging on year after year without needing replacement, the "kinda old" trucks were all silverado's except the one Triton V10 tonner, and for me they got a Dodge midsize - the only "small truck" and their first dodge (I was a manager so needed a truck less than the service guys), nothing but horrible gas mileage and issues with the Dodge, it cost them more to run that Dodge in fuel alone than any other vehicle the two years I drove it.

rams are the worst things we have had.

the gm 6.6 gassers been great, the 6.0 before those were stellar, every godzilla before mid 23 murdelated itself between 38-50k miles..the 6.2 fords were slow and noisy but steady...reliable

the 6l80s were really good the 6r80s were really good....the ram 8 speeds were really good. the gm 8 speeds were garbage.....this gm 10 speed i have now is not confidence inspiring over the previous godzilla and 10r. but the gm engine is ok....so far.

this is in 250-550 trucks.

1/2 tons are all junk except for the heavy tow fords.

i am the problem. i rent the trucks because i dont want to fix them because i cant due to time because i work all over the place and i am rarely home.....and i need to know someone is going to get my ol lady if there is a issue and bring her a loaner car.

i drive old junk that is actually fixable and the last of the iron before ford decided that making long life trucks was a horrible business model. because it is....to some extent.

so....the used market becomes a cost nightmare because no vehicles are aimed at making it past 120k miles without and major fails.

after what ford did to the powerboost by downgrading it so much, i just can not see me buying anything from those useless shitbags again. went from the best thing i have ever seen, to ...i dont know what the fawk drove this decision. well, i know...

the government has caused much of this with the artificial requirements. and incentives to force people into shit they dont want. the problem with the leadership at ford is they will suk on the government teet instead of actually serving the customer.

that is crapitolism. not capitalism.

stop buying junk. demand better. more importantly....demand LESS.

i want knobs and switches. simplicity. not everything has to be a loaded up autobot.

life cycle is a tricky thing i have to concede, but the failure the last 5 years is disgusting.

lucky me, my 2.0 Ecoboost is on the list.
so far only the EGR has had any issues, 86,000 miles.

Shopping carts are easier to push, would not own a Chebby.

They used to.

Jeeps are forgettable aside from the Wrangler which looks weird with the more open grille. Waggy looks like a knockoff Expedition which aesthetically it basically is.

I remember when I first started working at Chrysler and one of the techs suggested it might be time to put cams in something. Me (who bought my OEM Foxbody cam for my crown vic engine off Craigslist for like $50 10 years prior) was like "there is a time for that?"

That new charger is sharp....

Hopefully the hemi finds its way in in the near future

Looks like it sucked on a lemon, I really dont care for it.
If you ignore the grille it's reminiscent of the late 60s Chargers with the Coke bottle waist and hips.
Which may or may not be a good thing depending on how much you value new ideas. It's like Hollywood remaking a classic movie that doesn't need remaking because they have no new ideas. Still, I guess I'd rather look at an unoriginal nice looking car than an ugly boring one.

As the engineer says in that video, other than corporate greed/profit maximizing, a lot of this stuff, cylinder deactivation, 10 speed transmissions, 27 computers etc, are driven by CAFE and other government requirements. I'm all for helping the environment as much as possible, but it occurs to me that the 5mpg you gain going from 3 gears to 10 gears and the amount of fuel your burn over the life of the vehicle will be offset by probably a factor of 10 by the energy use and pollution caused by having to make all these parts/transmissions/engines/electronics/cars required to replace all the crappy junk that's failing because too many corners were cut.
In other words, I can't see it as anything other than a net loss, both for pocket books and the environment.

I'll have to remember to link the youtube video I watched that was saying pretty much the same thing. Emissions standards and other government requirements are driving a lot of this stuff. The main focus of the video was about 21 things that are reducing vehicle reliablity, instead of just environmental protection. Environmental protection was just one of the drivers un causing them to be included, like start/stop.
