Global Ranger revisited - again

I'd love to see a body on frame, fiberglass fenders/hood, aluminum bed decking with a steel top edge, fiberglass bed sides, and steel tailgate. Have a plastic bellypan/skidplate come stock, alum or steel replacement as an available accessory.

Option it out:
-2wd/4wd
-1.5L turbodiesel/ 3.0L turbodiesel(done right that's 150/300hp)
-Manual/auto

Edit: There's that guy running around up in Canada with a TDI Ranger, getting 36mpg. If he can get 36mpg from a 1.8L with poor aerodynamics and a heavy stock body, a properly setup 1.5L could probably see 45mpg. I gained 2mpg adding a front lip + tonneau cover (still drove highway speeds, and dropped gears to keep speed up hills)

That is exactly what I'm saying! If he can put a german 1.8L TDI and get that gas mileage, why can't these billion dollar companies!?!?!?
I am curious about the new 2.7 Ecoboost, I'd like to see it make the new F-150 get at least 30mpg, which would mean, if they put it in a ranger you could expect to see it get up there further.

This Ranger looks like a good size for a new US Ranger

I think this would be a great new look for a small sporty Ranger

The only thing I don't like about this one is that it looks to be a unibody . The old Rangers and Explorers shared a lot of parts. The new Explorer is unibody, If Ford makes a new Ranger will it be unibody ?

If ford makes a new US ranger and makes it unibody I will lose all faith in ford lol.

Unibody isn't so bad as long as it doesn't look like a stinkin car.

I heard a while back that there is a new F100 coming, didn't see any picture but it could be a good mid sized truck.
Funny thing is why would Ford get rid of a great little truck just to replace it with another truck.

So, I've been thinking, maybe they are going to bring the ranger back, or something like it but they are waiting. Why? Well, as you know the new F-150 is coming out, and with the new 2.7 ecoboost and being mostly aluminum it will be a perfect test to see how they perform, how aluminum trucks will respond with the customer base, and the new 2.7. And if it all goes well, they may make a ranger or something like it with it being mostly aluminum and having the 2.7.

I still don't get the big who-hoo about a midsize truck.

I sat in a new Taco at a car show a week and a half ago. The cab is wider but the extra cabspace is eaten up by really thick door panels. The console was about as thick as the Explorer one in my Ranger and the seats were mounted in about the same location relative to the console. If there was a difference I think a measly inch would catch it.

It didn't really seem any bigger inside the cab than my '85 (aside from being a full four door) You still better like the copilot.

I really hope the aluminum thing works out. People make noise about paint lifiting and whatnot... still gotta shoot paint after you weld in new steel.

I found another new Ranger drawing, I hope it means Ford is working on a new US Ranger. I like this one, it's sporty and still a strong looking truck.

God damn that's ugly. ITS A TRUCK.

Wouldn't surprise me though Ford is getting annoying with how similar the front ends are these days.

Keep in mind if those guys were actually any good they would be getting a paycheck from Ford rather than some magazine.

They did a horrible job of "predicting" the new Mustang...

Better than the EDGE front end but this looks like a Stang !

WTF a truck front end please... !

I think they just make the front ends the same on most of their vehicles to make production easier.. They don't have to chance up the machines that much.

They want to have a Ford look like a Ford.

Like the later Foxbodies, Tauruses, Rangers, F-150's and CV's all had the same style of angled headlights in the 80's and well up into the 00's.

When Scrambler82 was complaining about the "Edge" front end at first I was like "that is nothing like the Ranger Edge front end" until it clicked "oh that Edge" :D
