My front end on my 97 2wd Ranger is making some noise. Its faint, but distinctly sounds like a cv shaft going bad. Which obviously doesn't make much sense because it has no cv, or even 4wd. Its frustrating even though it isn't loud.

I can feel it in the wheel when I turn at lower speeds, which makes me think maybe something in the column?

Really acts 100% like the chatter and pop of a failing cv oddly enough.

Check your bearings and tires.

I had a wheel bearing go on my Saturn SL, kinda sounded like a CV at first. Which was kinda odd since I'm used to more of a rumble for a bearing issue.

Does this happen when you turn the steering wheel or all the time?

It could be somthing binding in your steering.

Its when I turn the wheel. Not until I turn it a good amount though, like as to do a 90 degree turn.

I bet something in your steering shaft is going bad. Have someone turn the steering wheel and you listening for noises under the hood.
