step one; remove license plate
step two; reattach license plate to new ford ranger:icon_thumby:

How may miles are on it, and has the timing belt been replaced?

I doubt that it is the fuel filter, they usually clog gradually and there will be other symptoms before it won't start at all.

well this is my gf's old car its her little sis drives it now she actually has a 97 2.3 5 speed ranger now. she kept getting into accidents with small cars so i wanted her a little higher up and to have a solid frame and bumpers

I don't know if it could be this extreme but my girlfriend had same problem. we drove her car to her friends house no problems when we triied to leave no start just crank after tinkering with it for several hours I gave up and sent it to a pro. found out she had a computer controlled ignition switch and the computer fried and killed the switch we had to replace the pass-key and computer. $2000 later I works just fine. car thought it was being stolen so it wouldn't let motor to get gas or spark 'cause it didn't reconize key.

another thing to check for is motor ground wire these go bad on honda when I had my Integra i rplaced them twice in two years then I upgraded to after market. you can see here in this photo going from valve cover to chasis. pluse I upgrade battery ground as well. never had problem after.

I second that ground wire, my brothers civic had the same issue.

I would start by checking the usuals...
Getting fuel?
Getting spark?
Timing?

weird thing is i went over there this mourning and it cranked hard afew times and then started and ran ok. the cel light came on so we went to get it scanned and we got
randon misfire
cylinder 3 misfire
cylinder 4 misfire

and it did rain and it was damp out yesterday
