Ive lurked around on the trans thread and have seen a good deal of comments remarking that mercon v is no good for m5 manual trans. I use mobil 1 extended performance 5w-30 engine oil wise...any ways I was reading a bottle of Mobil 1 synthetic ATF and says "It is recommended by ExxonMobil for use in applications requiring DEXRON® III, Ford MERCON® and MERCON® V performance levels.

Meets or exceeds the off-highway power transmission requirements of Allison C-4.

Recommended by ExxonMobil for use in any power steering unit where a DEXRON® or MERCON® fluid is recommended."

Anyone else use this ...run into any problems...foresee problems/benefits? Thanks

mercon V is just the synthetic version of dex III/Merc, anything is fine, mine lived about 250k with unknown fluid, the last 50k miles were with walmart dex III/Merc, when I got the chassis it had gear oil in it and shifted bad (go figure), rebuilt it in February and it looked nearly new inside other than the synchro's being worn and the 5/R slider being worn out... it now has Walmart Dex III/Merc in it again...

Don't do it, it meets and exceeds specifications.

It's just too slippery, you'll burn up the synchros. Although it would be good for the bearings...

I use a qt bottle of Lucas oil stabilizer and top off with regular generic ATF.

My M5 just let go, under hard abuse, w/ 285k mi on it.

see my 92 is running great with 303981 miles on it. I have been using valvoline dex/merc trans fluid and mobil 1 extended performance 10w-30 for motor oil. I havent had any problems and would like to keep it that way and I'm a fan of mobil 1 products so was just wondering...
