My credo
I need more sleep.
So I have the 8.8 with the 28 spline, and I want to get Posi for it, so I've been looking around and the cheapest I can find are ones salvaged out of mustangs, the run about 80-100 bucks, but I'm concerned with them being used. Anyone know and places to get a good one?

I don't think you could go wrong with an aftermarket unit like the Detroit TrueTrac...

The OEM Traction-Lok units are pretty easy to rebuild though. A rebuild kit should make any used one good as new (or better if you rearrange the discs a little so you can add extra ones to it).

Yeah, I looked at a lot of aftermarket ones, but they go for around $300+

It just depends on what you want to spend and the chance you want to take. Spend a bit and get something as mentioned like the detroit truetrac which will most likely last the life of the truck for you and require no maintenance. or go cheap and get a used trac-lok and take the chance you may not have to rebuild it before you are done with the truck.

If you are having someone else perform the work (IMO) I would get the truetrac so chances are you never have to open it up again. having someone else install a used unit will only save you cost and not labor. So if you ever have to rebuild that used unit parts cost and labor will exceed what a new unit like the truetrac cost initially.

If you do the work yourself you could probably get away with having to rebuild a used unit once after the initail install and still be below budget of the cost of a new one.

Its your call. looking at your truck it seems newer and nice so id just get a new unit seeing as you are probably going to have the truck a while.

Buy a $100 used limited slip carrier, buy the $150 clutch kit, now you are infor $250. That $300 detroit doesn't sound so expensive now, does it?
